Help me shop

My friend is getting married next month, and I'm helping her look for a dress for her 10-year-old daughter to wear to the wedding. She can wear a kids size 16, but thinks she's too old to shop in the girls section. Most of her clothes are juniors S or M, or 1/2 or 3/4. Daughter will be participating in the ceremony.

Daughter wants strapless, Mom doesn't want her dress falling down but would be okay assuming it fits and doesn't look trampy. Daughter is refusing on a halter, but I think she would go for it if it was really "cool" and the suggestion came from me and not her mom. Daughter doesn't really like sparkles, wants to wear white. Mom wants either white or yellow, and would like to keep it under $50, but would spend up to $80 if they can't find anything else and it's something they both love. Help? Local store or online would be fine.

TIA!

Long or short?  How formal?  My first suggestion not knowing the answer to those questions would be Nordstrom juniors dept, which I used to like a lot.  You might want to also post on your local board to see if there are any smaller boutiques that people recommend.

ETA: Here is one suggestion (link).
  • What about something like THIS.

  • I don't think you're going to be able to find anything strapless for a 10-year old.  Maybe something 1-shoulder like this:

Macy's - Speechless Dress, One-Shoulder with Rose Detail (Juniors)

And this doesn't fit any requirements other than color/price, but I think it's really cute.

Nordstrom - Fire Lace Shift Dress (Juniors)

I like that lace one, too.  When I was that age, I thought anything with lace or mesh was super sophisticated.
  • Length, I think they're both open. Most of the ones daughter has not hated are knee or tea length. Formality, not SUPER formal, but definitely dressy. Mom will be wearing THIS if that tells you anything.

I'm generally a very good shopper, but have never really shopped with/for tween girls, so I'm not sure. My friend knows nothing about fashion, and really only herself wears things that other people buy or give to her. So she asked for my help mediating between the two of them.

Jessica, I really think she'll like the dot one. It might be nice compromise on the strapless thing. It's super cute and I wish I could pull off that shape myself.

Target $20 (A little less formal) Clicky
JCPenney $20 (Almost identical Milkdud's first link but "juniors")  Clicky. I think this one is really cute and age appropriate.
