Tell me about your alterations

What did you need done and how much did it cost?

I'm going to need my dress taken in around the waist and a bustle put in. I'll ask on my local as well but I wanted to get some info here.

[QUOTE]Oh anna, I like your price! Sun, my dress is from David's Bridal and I think I've read they overcharge. I'll probably ask for recs on my local and see if I can find someone cheaper.

<div>Do NOT get your alterations done at David's Bridal.  Please learn from my mistake.  I got my dress there and despite everyone telling me not to get it done there, I got it done there.  They took it in too much and then told me to lose weight instead of them fixing the problem.  They also charged me about $350 for a bustle, hem, and take in. Ridiculous.</div>

  • i just got my qoute from a local lady that does alterations and was known the be the best around with the best prices.

I need my shortened (Im 6ft tall and still managed to order my dress too long ugh) bustled, some beading fixed and steamed/cleaned. The bustle is whats going to kill me, but the qoute price was 230 or so.

While the price REALLY shocked me, I did honestly save 300 by ordering the dress online, but now Im just respending that money lol.

Don't go to DB, I too have heard horror stories!

Also, I think a lot of stores/websites say to allot around 150 for alterations?? So I think what Im being charged isnt too horrible (free would be better, but hey. . it needs to be done!)

  • Mine had very minor alterations. I paid $175 in total, which I felt was a ripoff because she didn't do a very good job and my BM's mom had to fix the hem for me after the fact. But anyway, my alterations included:

    1. Hemming (the dress had 3 layers of fabric but no tulle. BM's mom redid the hem in some spots because it was still too long)
    2. Neckline modified to a sweetheart (which was literally just a couple of stitches, given the design of my dress)
    3. Single point bustle added (which my BM's mom had to fix into a 3 point bustle)
    4. The modesty panel under the corset had to be moved (the seamstress just left one side completely unfastened and just moved the button on the other side; BM's mom had to add an extra clasp for me)

  • I had the length brought up - $250
Taken in on both sides (front and back) - $95 for each side
    Cups sewn in - $25

Almost $500.  Yeah that sucked.  I will never tell anyone to get a dress a size bigger "just in case".  And my dress didn't fit properly.  I still loved it and didn't give a crap... but when I see it in pictures, it kind of bugs me.

  • I just needed a bustle put in and had it steamed.  I think it was around $70/80.
  • I'm worried about the cost of alterations as well, I go in for my first fitting in march so I'm a little while off, but trying to budget still
