Invite Addressing Question

Ok  sorry if this has been asked before but I didn't see it. How do i address an envelope to a widow who has kept her married name but is in a serious relationship/cohabitating/engaged..all of these apply to different couples in my family.
Would it just be Mr. John Smith & Mrs. Jane Doe - it just seems kind of awkward. Thanks in advance

Yes, this is almost how you address it.  For couples who are not married, the names do not go on the same line.

    Mr. John Smith
    Mrs. Jane Doe

I know it seems awkward since this was her name with her former husband and now she's with someone else, but the reality is that this is her name and it can't be addressed otherwise.  Widows are still addressed as Mrs.

  • Also, didn't your wedding date pass?  Your profile says 8/26/10.

  • The woman's name should go on the top line before the man's
  • Thank you. And yes my wedding date technically passed. We are a military couple and had a JOP before he left but are having a reception when he returns. Its kind of complicated I know but it was really the only way that worked for us.
  • Ohh, I see.  Congratulations, then!

  • Mrs. Jane Doe
    Mr. John Smith

I think we had this exact question on E and Invites earlier today.  I swear, I've answered it at least 3 times in 24 hours now.
