In a lot of pain...so NOT the week for this!

I was driving with a friend yesterday we were rear-ended.  Hard.  There's about 1k worth of damage to my car, but what's worse is that both my friend and I are in a lot of pain.  I just came back from the doc's office and I now have 3 prescriptions, including one for a muscle relaxer.  My back is in spasm.  I got off of the phone with my insurance and I'm not at fault, but I so don't need to be dealing with this crap four days before my wedding!  I mean, you never want to be dealing with this, but add this onto one of my BMs driving me nuts, my OOT friends coming into town (yay, but i still have to make time for everyone), and my dad being an ass.  Ugh!!!

RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.
You made my wedding day complete.

  • Oh no.. If you could, just try to stay in and relax.
If something needs to be taken care of, let someone else do it.

  • UGH!! that sucks

Just be very grateful that it wasn't worse!!!!  I have heard of car accidents on the day of the wedding with serious injury and death... I couldn't imagine something so awful!

Feel better soon!  Have a great wedding!!!
  • If it happened yesterday, today should be the most amount of pain you'll feel (as long as you're not really injured, just muscle pain), so it should get better starting tomorrow. Just take your medicines as prescribed even if you don't feel any pain, at least the next couple of days. And make sure you stop taking any anything before you have a drink at your RD or the wedding.

I've been rear-ended twice and my H is going through this now, so I speak from some experience. I really hope you feel better soon!

  • That sucks, I'm sorry :( When I got rear ended it screwed up my shoulder a lot and I still have problems (3 years later). I should have never settled for the amount the insurance gave because it wasn't enough.
I did feel better a couple days after though so hopefully you'll be feeling alright :)
  • that sucks I'm sorry. try to rest as much as possible right now--recruit any family members to help if you can. I agree with waltzingmatilda that at least for the first few days, just take your meds on a schedule instead of as needed. that way, you'll stay on top of the pain (I try to teach my post-op patients this, and no one ever gets it). that's what the meds are for. heat is good for muscle spasms; it relaxes the muscles. so if you have a heating pad, or a big bathtub, try those to relax your muscles.

anyone who is giving you sh!t right now, give it back to them.

Oh no!  Do your best to feel well, and I hope it mostly passes by the wedding.

Keep track (a diary) of every pain, how bad, and for how long.  Keep track of things you could do before that you can't do now - lifting arms, moving head, carrying laundry, whatever.  And keep track of how you feel on your wedding day & honeymoon and how/if this limited you.

I really hope that it DOESN'T affect or limit you at all, but if it DOES, the rear-ending twit should pay for it.

After the wedding & honeymoon, get a lawyer.  Your insurance company does defense, you need someone else as a plaintiff.  If you want a good referral in NY, I can get you some.

  • Oh no!! Hope you feel better SOON! Like someone said, today should be the worst, I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is true for you!

Like Pooh said - keep a schedule and just take the medications as prescribed despite feeling pain or not, it's always easier to scale back on meds than it is to catch up.

Also try gentle stretching exercises and to walk (slowly) - it has been shown in numerous studies that bedrest is actually A LOT worse for back pain then gentle exercise like walking and range of motion exercises.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  • Talk about BAD timing. Hope you get better asap
  • You may want to try and fit a massage into your schedule.  I had an accident in January that caused muscle pain and it really helped.  Make sure you tell the massge therapist what happened and where the pain is centered and a licensed therapist should be able to help you.
