Morning!

Re: Morning!

  • I had to find this in my posts, since TK ate it again.

I'm suprised I've gotten into the Proboards, I never posted on SB, and most of the people over there are SBers.

cfas - THIS is the link.

Bay - That's pretty ridiculous. I hate when people think their birthdays are some major affair. I mean, I will be bummed if my 30th isn't something special, since it's sort of a milestone birthday, but everything between 19 and 30 isn't special (19 is drinking age here).

  • Cfas, Lucy banned a crazy amount of people just because she could. I dont even remember the whole list of people she banned.
Who was banned by Lucy? Why do I always miss all the good stuff?
    Posted by cfaszews25
The real question is who WASN'T banned. Pretty much anyone who had posted on chit chat that was also part of the drama that went down on SB. It seemed as though Lucy was just going for whomever she could find first. It all went down in like 10 minutes. There's still an AYG left from last week or two weeks ago with some of the nonsense. KL deleted one of the AYGs because it violated TOS. The whole thing really was ca-razy.

  • Habs, I feel the same way, only it's 18 to vote, 21 to drink here. Then milestone birthdays are a biggie. But really? I haven't "celebrated" a birthday since I was 24 and someone threw me a party. Usually my birthdays involve dinner and that's it. She's being a massive brat.

  • I have recovered from my 3 day 1300 mile road trip with my sister in law (Thurs-Sun). We drove to DC for a Women of Faith conference. She discovered that we were 30 miles from the Flight 93 Memorial when we were leaving our hotel Sunday morning so we stopped there before getting on that incredibly overpriced turnpike.

Spent most of the trip back thinking up "attendance questions." SIL is a HS Bio teacher and I had mentioned DS's AP Chem teacher from last year. He had an attendance question everyday and I would ask DS what it was so I could start convo with him. (you know, where the kid actually engages with real words instead of "nothing" or "I don't know") She said she might be guilty of forgetting to take attendance sometimes so she was all over it. We had about 60 or so when we parted ways. Yeah, we know how be exciting.

Mica - how are the kittens doing? I have been hit or miss over the last few weeks so if you posted pics, I missed them. Names?

Natrasha - recipes for those treats please? I love macarons and a new cookie recipe is always a welcome thing for DH. He makes Cookie Monster look like a rookie. Congrats on breaking that barrier!
  • I have always made a "big deal" about my birthday in that I take off work if it falls on a weekday and I want to do SOMETHING to celebrate. Lately that's been dinner with H and/or family and inviting friends over for drinks and board games. It's crazy to get upset about other people not making it a huge deal though. I use it as an excuse to do the above mentioned things. Especially taking off work.
  • ok I am going to ask a really dumb question...but humor me.

If I am making a cake with two round layers, do I need one box mix or two?
  • Hockey, if you're just doing a standard 8" or 9" round pan, you only need 1 box for 2 pans.

  • I can't remember the last time someone made a "big deal" over my bday. The last two years, H hasn't even been in town for it. Usually my parents and I go for dinner if he's not around, but otherwise, it's same ol'. I used to like taking the day off, but in my current job, it's not totally possible because it's a crazy time.

  • KM- THIS is the macaron shell recipe I used. I made a strawberry swiss meringue buttercream from Martha Stewart, but next time I want to try ganache or salted caramel.

THESE are the world peace cookies. They are so good.

I haven't been baking much because of the whole losing weight and eating healthier thing. It was awesome to put my mixer to work again.
  • Ok thanks Bay.... I have only made a cake once on my own and it was a disaster. I am hoping to have more success this time.
  • Good morning everyone! I'm bumming around the house; I need to work on thank you cards today but I'm just not in the mood. I'm wasting time on Pinteret instead.

H's family makes bdays into a HUGE deal... huge. Regardless of age. It's hard for me to adjust because they were never a big deal in my family, at least not once I passed, like, age 10. But I confess, I do get a little butthurt when H's family doesn't make my bday into a big deal, only because they do for everyone else.

Thank you! I can definitely see those macarons at FIL's 81st bday party next month. Thanks for the quick reply.

  • A good birthday for me anymore is one when my parents actually call me. They have a habit of not doing so, so if I don't expect them to call, I won't be disappointed when they don't do it.

  • Natrasha - Congrats on the WL :) Feels amazing right? My FI has lost 35+ in the past 6 months and his self esteem and confidence level has improved greatly.
Button - Meegles - Beanie - I feel the same about PBs. I mostly lurk here, so I would feel kinda awkward going over. New kid in school kind of thing, I guess.

Cfas, they are finicky and difficult. I have yet to make a truly great looking batch. They are also time consuming and almonds are expensive so it doesn't really inspire me to practice a lot. I've never had them completely fail (just turn out kind of flat and thin, or the bottoms are kind of messed up) so they still taste good. I'm still hoping someday I can make them look like they came out of a real bakery.

And thank you everyon for the weight loss props :) It feels awesome. I really want to go on a shopping spree.
  • Woo...I made my appointment for my hair tomorrow (decided to get it colored too!)....that means I can use today to go shoe shopping and get a bday gift for my friends' son. This dressing like a grownup thing is getting expensive!

Agreed. It's maddening to read her excuses - and I made the mistake of going through her posting history. It's almost entirely threads dealing with step-parents (and her posts are almost entirely on how to purposely exclude them).

  • My allergies are so bad, I have no ambition at all today. Which is OK since the only thing I have to do is have a massage at 2. Gosh, my life is tough.

Kiddos are all busy doing fun things since it's the last couple of days of summer.

That sounds amazing right about now.

Wally I give you major props for trying to breakdown the dynamics of a Step to NYU. She needs to get a effin clue. From the sound of it, you are a real stand up woman for stepping in and being a real mother to your sd. Bio or not.

    No kidding... denial much?

Just an FYI to those asking about why it's so slow: I stepped away from the computer for a bit and tried to access TK on my phone. It's another universe again (still?) - the morning thread wasn't on there. I wonder if that accounts for some of the slowness; half of the threads aren't showing up on TK mobile.

I need to do dishes... I hate doing dishes. I have 2 sink fulls of them to do (no dishwasher). Bleh! Annnnd my favorite Pyrex bowl shattered yesterday. I'm bummed.
