In lieu of favors...

I have been to weddings that donated to charity in lieu of favors and it was usually in rememberance of a deceased family member (donation to the charity supporting research for cancer, for ex).  I thought it was totally classy and appreciated that money not only went towards researching an illness that they lost a family member to, but also that it was a gesture of rememberance as well.
