Etiquitte for a 1st and 2nd marriage, marrying abroad?

I was curious what the etiquitte rules are for the following:

I've been married once, this is his first marriage.
We are wanting to get married in the Caribbean.

What does etiquitte say about registering for gifts, especially if we are not marrying locally? And also, we know there will likely be no one else attending except for ourselves.

Any tips and hints appreciated. Would a bridal shower (albeit a 'couples' shower) be acceptable if my sister wanted to throw one?

  • Only those invited to the wedding should be invited to pre-wedding events, if it's wedding #1 or wedding #15.

Are you just having you and FI at the wedding, or are you inviting a ton of people, but expect that none of them will make it?  If it's the latter, a shower would be OK with the people invited to the wedding.  You could always do a small registry just in case people ask and want to get you something.

  • We would absolutely invite a select number of people, but only immediate family and closest friends.
We just assume no one would want to pay the cost of travelling abroad.

Then these are the people your sister could invite to the shower.  Nver assume.  Send the invites to those you want in attendence and let them decide if they want to go to the islands.
When is your wedding?  And which island?  There are often very nice package travel deals during off seasons.

  • I also think you should invite whomever you'd like to be there. They can decide if they want to come or not. You'd be surprised at who will take the opportunity to travel!
