s/o Beer!

For those who like beer, what's your favorite go-to?  What's your favorite "special" beer?

I personally LOVE beer.  We have a ton of microbreweries in CO and I love going to tour them and tasting all of the small batches and seasonals.  My favorite anytime beers are New Belgium Fat Tire and Breckenridge Avalance.  My favorite seasonal is Alaskan Winter.  Annnd my favorite "special" beer is Golden Monkey, which has like 9.5% ABV.  Ridic, but so delicious.

Re: s/o Beer!

  • I looooove Fat Tire, which I believe comes from CO.

My go to beer is Abita.  It's a local brewery in south Louisiana and they make some divine seasonal brews. They're year round stuff is wonderful as well. If I'm feeling particularly white trash though, there's nothing better than an ice cold Budweiser longneck.

Fat Tire is indeed from CO!  Their brewery is in Ft. Collins, where I went to college for awhile.  Used to go on the tours just to get free beer, but they book up weeks in advance now.

  • I recently discovered that, dispite my best attempts, I don't actually like beer. My favorite is Bud Light. I absolutely adore beer like that, including Bud Select, and even the college go-tos, Natty Light and Keystone (Light or Ice, depending on the night).  However, I rarely like "real" beer, even though I keep trying to. I like it in theory, and would consider myself a beer person in general.

As far as special beers go, I really like Bud Light Golden Wheat, but I'm most certainly aware that that doesn't count and it is girly too.  I also love any kind of hard cider/beer combo, Woodchuck or otherwise.

  • My favorite right now is Stella, but I like most beers.  I'm trying to cut calories and am limited to only light beers now, so I'm switching to wine only.

    Sorry, preggo! ;)

I'm trying not to judge all of you who like Coors and Bud.

  • I'm a Budweiser girl. Totally boring, I know, but there is nothing like a frosty Budweiser.

On occasion I happen to feel adventurous, and get a Hefeweizen w/ orange slice. Yum!

And now I need a beer.
    *off to the frige*
  • My current favourite is Rickard's White. Moosehead is another one I always enjoy.

Oh Sucrets, I forgot about ole Sammy. Summer Ale is awesome!
Pooh, I'm glad to see a Louisiana brand representin in TX. Abita is some tasty stuff.

EDIT: I forgot all about Shiner too. I love Shiner Bock, Hefeweizen, and Blonde. Ok, I'm realizing now that I could go on for days about the beer I love. There's a local bar here (I'm sure other people have caught onto this as well) that does something called a Red Ho. I hate the name but it's soooo good. It's Hoegaarden (hefeweizen) mixed with Lindemans Framboise. Delish.

It was the ONLY thing that I paid extra to add on to our wedding.  The package came with an open bar and some beer on tap, but all I wanted was unlimited bottles of Sam Summer.

There's a point where all of my wedding reception pics include me with a beer in my hand.  I actually didn't that much because I was talking a ton, but I kept on getting new bottles because I hate when it gets warm.

  • Shiner is good too. I like their Bock, Black, and Hefe. not a fan of the light, leicht, or blonde, puke. Shiner Black is my go-to cheap beer for the fridge because Young's is hella expensive, and Bock is my go-to tap beer when the bar sucks and all they have on tap are the big 3 and Shiner.

Houston has a local brewery too, St. Arnold's. I haven't yet found a beer from them that I like, but I've only tried their light colored stuff. I prefer dark beers.

I cannot WAIT to have my first post pg beer!!

I drink Bud Light if I'm out and am going for the long term.  Or I'll drink it to maintain after a few real beers.

    Or if I'm poor.

  • I love Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss, Honey Weiss, Sunset Wheat, Summer Shandy...
  • Actually, I have a poor time beer- I'll drink a PBR when I'm broke.  It's like $4 for a 6-pack, that's amazing!  It's totally considered a hipster beer here, though, which is weird.

    image
  • Oh god Kiki, it's hipster beer here too. I used to bartend at a real classy joint that had it on tap. I served it mainly to dudes in skinny jeans, vom. But it was also like $2 a pint, so I don't know if they were trying to be trendy or if they were just low on funding.

  • I'm glad there aren't any snobs around, or I'd be in trouble for answering a beer post with my favorite beer.

Also, it's brewed in St. Louis and I know many people who work for the brewery, so that might have something to do with it.

That, and I hate stout beer because I prefer to not feel like I am drinking a loaf of rye bread. But that's just me.

  • My everyday go-to beer is Blue Moon, Stella or any Magic Hat. My ghetto beer is PBR. My let's get crunk beer is Dogfish 90 or Hennepin.
  • lauren, I decided it's because hipsters are poor.  Or at least like to pretend they are.  My favorite hipster-douchebag bar here serves PBR Tallboys, which I have to admit I kinda get excited about.
    image
  • The bar I spent most of my free time in my freshman year of college used to have PBR longnecks and the caps had playing card numbers and suits on them. We used to save them and after five compare what kind of poker hand we had. That bar just burned down and it makes me sad :(

  • One of my favorite bars in St. Louis is called the Tin Can, and they only serve beer in cans. Which means they serve very few "cool" beers. I think that might make me a redneck.

  • I had Fat Tire last night. Love it! "Regular" beer that's available out here that I like includes Fat Tire, Shock Top, Stella, Blue Moon.

I love craft beers, American microbreweries, and Belgian and Germany style beers. I especially love wheat beers, dubbels, tripels and quadruppels. Many, I should move to Belgium. I didn't think I liked dark beer before I went to Germany, but I do!

My current favorite is Allagash Curieux from Portland, Maine. It's a belgian style beer that's aged in bourbon barrels. Mmm. Expensive, though. :-( But all Allagash beer (that I've had) is good.

In San Diego there's a ton of microbreweries and FI and I went to an awesome restaurant/bar (before the Australian one) where we tried a ton of new beer!

I didn't start drinking beer until I was about 23. I once mentioned, "before I liked to drink beer" to FI and he said, "there was a time you didn't drink beer?!"

  • Carlsburg is always my go to. But I'm a total snob with beer, I don't drink North American at all unless I'm having a shandy, which I cut with a Sleeman's Cream Ale.

My fave is a South African lager called Castle but it's super hard to get my hands on it so I buy in bulk when it's available.

  • Yeah I also judge people who drink Coors and Bud. I cannot stand it. It can loosely be called beer, IMO.

  • I call it horse piss, alix.
