Getting married after baby was born

I was engaged to my baby's father and we broke up- I got pregnant by him 6 months later- we had the baby and now the baby is 4 months old. we just got engaged again. I want an engagement party, "real" wedding and honeymoon. Neither of us have been married before- my MIL says the engagement party is rediculous. What is proper etiquette in a case like this? Thanks for any help!

    Has anyone offered to throw you an engagement party? You can't throw one for yourself, and you can't ask someone to throw one for you. If no one offers, you don't get one. There is no problem with you planning a "real" wedding or honeymoon.
