Delivery People

We are in the midst of the  heat wave here in MN.  Tuesday, a FedEx driver set a large box of 144 votive candles, clearly labeled PROTECT FROM HEAT, on our sidewalk 10 feet from the front door.  We were home, but he didn't come to the door.  Luckily, my son saw him out the window and retrieved the package immediately.  Today, the UPS guy chucked a box containing our pocketfolds into the garage through the raised door.  Again, we are home!  Come to the door people...or I will start claiming  I never received the merchandise!

Re: Delivery People

  • Fed Ex has never knocked on our door when I'm home.
    UPS usually does.

  • Did you see the video of the guy that chucked either a computer monitor or tv over someones fence? I can't remember which.

    It was a fed-ex driver that threw a flat screen TV.   <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7Sb_r7BKTc" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7Sb_r7BKTc</a>

  • Like Duds said, unless a signature is required they don't have to try knocking. In fact, it sometimes costs the sender extra to request a signature, so the delivery company isn't supposed to seek a signature if it isn't requested. If you want them to come find you, then just request they do so. I worked for a company that dealt with candles. We had those warning labels on the boxes, too. As long as the heat doesn't reach the melting point, there is no danger to the product.

  • Gah! Good thing you didn't end up with wax soup!

  • In my experience, make friends with the person who drives your route.  Be friendly, try to catch them when they are still at their truck, stuff like that, and your service improves greatly.  Yes, I know you shouldn't have to do this, but a few extra seconds with the UPS guy may solve the "packages tossed at your head" issue

  • This seems to be a new problem.  We had a problem at school in May.  We had ordered tickets for a Physics day at a nearby amusement park and instead of coming into the school they left a notice on the front door (the school was obviously open.)   They then proceeded to leave the tickets and our graduation caps and gowns on the front steps the next day when the school was obviously closed (the sign out front had the dates of vacation listed and the power had been basically shut down for the weekend to save money.)  Thankfully a janitor stopped to check something and stored the packages safely.  If not, we most likely would have been out $1000 in tickets and thousands in caps and gowns.  When I called Fedex they didn't even have the courtesy to get back to me.(We didn't know where the tickets were the day we came back, we finally tracked them down.)   Sorry for the wall of text!

<div>So true! Both our FedEx guy and UPS woman are great, but we've made it a point to be easy to deal with and nice to them. I also shop online A LOT, so they both come here fairly often.</div><div>
</div><div>ETA: Not insinuating that OP isn't nice to her delivery people. Ignoring labels and/or mishandling packages is not OK.</div>

  • My UPS people are great! They always bring my packages right to my door and either knock or ring the bell.

Fedex people suck! They leave my packages up near my mailbox on the street, which I cannot even see from our house because we have such a long, curvy driveway. I always have to make sure I track any packages from Fedex so I know when they are being delivered. Several of my neighbors have also complained about the bad Fedex delivery people. Personally I feel Fedex has really gone downhill over the last couple of years.

  • LOL. I would be nice to them if I ever saw them.  I  just keep finding my packages after they have already left.  :)
  • I know horror stories from UPS because I used to work for one of there stores.  We had someone insure a painting they were mailing for about 100k and a UPS driver drove a forklift through it
