Bridesmaid gift - how much?

I'm starting to seriously look for BM gifts and don't have a clue how much I should spend.  On one hand, I want to spend a decent amount, but on the other, this is one more several hundred dollar expense that could go somewhere else.  I don't want to be cheap, but I don't want to blow the budget either.  How much is traditional?

Re: Bridesmaid gift - how much?

  • We're spending between $50-75 (3 attendants each) on completely personalized gifts depending on the person's personality.

Mostly I looked for things that the ladies wouldn't have gotten for themselves - personalized stationary set, pi-themed items and a necklace for a very proud mom.  We got each of the guys personalized cufflinks.

You should spend what you can afford to. How much did you budget for?

I think I spent about $70 on each BM.

Edit: I think it was more like $50-60 each. I don't know what I was thinking.

I spent about $50 per bridesmaid, plus we rented out all of the rooms in our venue (an inn) and invited the whole wedding party to stay there with us at no charge - there were just enough rooms for everyone.

    Edit: spelling

    Wow that was really sweet.

  • Ulterior motive - if we hadn't booked the place up they could have rented the rooms to random people.  We didn't want to run into any of them in the hall or have them crash the party.  LOL.

And we also wanted to have an excuse to have breakfast with our closest friends the next morning - but the stranger thing was a factor too.
  •  I plan on spending about $50 each (I have 7 BMs). I've just been buying a gift a month so I don't have to spend $350 all at once. Plus it would be overwhelming to me to have to do that much shopping all at once.
  • I didn't spend any money on a bridesmaid gift.  However, I paid for her dress, shoes, jewelry, hair and make-up.  Also, my only bridesmaid was my daughter.  So, I buy her stuff all the time.

  • I have budgeted for about $50/each.  Our WP consists of 8 BM's and 9 Groomsmen, so we will be spending a lot just on gifts for everyone, not to mention our parents.  I am guessing we will go over that amount by a little bit because we are planning on going to Things Remembered and getting personalized gifts, but it was a solid number for us to try and stick to.

Great idea, I wish I had thought of this! :) I'd agree though, about $50 each (I have 6 BMs) I feel is appropriate.
