Help me wash my car.

I hardly ever wash my car myself - I either go to a car wash or H does it for me. I tried washing it today and it came out all kinds of streaky. I really don't want to spend the money to get it washed, but apparently I'm doing something wrong. I used Turtle Wax brand car wash soap, rinsed it well, dried with a chamois. But it's streaky. Any advice?

I don't wash cars.

DH does it, or they remain nasty.

I rinse first, wash, rinse, chami.

In the bucket I put small amount of soap and half bucket of water.

If you did all that, I have no idea!

hmmm was the bucket clean? We have a specific "car washing" bucket.

Yep, I bought myself a "car wash kit" complete with new bucket, haha. 

Aryn, I usually do the same thing until it becomes hideous and I resort to getting it washed. My car's black so it's really noticeable when it's not super shiny and clean. It's been looking gray lately, haha. Now it's black with streaks.

Well that just doesn't make sense. Maybe it was just too dirty for one wash?

I ended up washing it three times because it dried streaky every time and I thought maybe it just wasn't clean. 

I'm officially giving up and will be getting it washed tomorrow morning, haha.

Were you washing in full sun or shade?  I've had better luck with this when there's no sun out.

Did you rinse fast enough? If you let the soap start to dry you'll get streaks. In full sun I only soap up 1/8 of the car at a time.

I feel pretty stupid...

I bought my car last March and it's never been washed. EVER. Mind you, it's a buy here, pay here, point A to point B car. It's also the color of mustard/baby poop and hides dirt REALLY well. Maybe we should wash it?

It's best to wash your car when it's not in full sun!  Espcially if you're using Turtle Wax.
