Ring Poll: Eternity/Anniversary Rings

I'm curious as to what the norms are around these extra rings:

1) Are you planning on getting (/have you got) an eternity/anniversary ring?

2) If so, when will (/did) you get it?

3) Bonus points: Show me pictures of the mix of rings you will (or do!) have.

I know you're all away atm, but reply as late as you wish to this poll.

    My answers:

    1) I'm not sure yet. I don't think another ring would suit my e-ring/wedding band combo.

    2) I have no clue. I don't know when these things are traditionally supposed to be exchanged, either.

    3) Here's my current rings. Super-bonus points if you have any ideas on what will match these! I don't think it's possible to find something that goes well, really. They're both platinum and look much more similar in colour than these pictures suggest.

  • Hi Sun!

Fi says he will get me a second identical band on our 1st anniversary to go on the other side of my e-ring.

  • I have never been one to wear a lot of jewelry to begin with, so there is no anniversary ring in my future.
Personally I think like in Anna's case that it would probably be an anniversary that it would be given.
I have no pictures as of yet, waiting on Pro-pics.

  • I'm not really a jewelry person so I don't really want or expect any kind of anniversary band.

I'd rather spend the money on a nice vacation or something really cool for the house.
  • kd - love the new sig pic!

Thank you dear. Although I was threatened not to replace my other one.

Sun- I would have a hard time finding anything t match your rings. I honestly had a hard time finding anything to match my E-ring. And the place he DH bought them is out of business.

  • I doubt it. My e-rin and wedding band are a set, and to add an identical band on the other side would just be too much for me. The bands alone are pretty thick. FI has said that maybe down the line for a 25th anniversary or something we might get an eternity band for my right hand, but I wear a ring that was my grandmothers on my right ring finger, and don't want to stop wearing that.

So, maybe we'll just take a really nice anniversary vacation instead! A friend of mine, her mom just got a complete new set on ther 20th anniversary. Her ring was very simple because they didn't have a lot of money when they started out, so she upgraded big time to a whole new very blingy set.
  • My mother got an eternity ring for her 20th wedding anniversary present... thus, I was sort of surprised to hear from others that eternity/anniversary bands are exchanged at the one-year mark... I'm glad I won't be the only one not bothering with this tradition!
  • When was your 5th anniversary, CS? I didn't realise you'd been married for so long!
  • Sun! We're NEVER on at the same time! I'm glad we are now :)

We've talked about anniversary bands, but I don't know. I don't wear too much jewelry. Nick has brought up when we have kids doing a birthstone eternity ring. Then I'd have stackables. Plus it would be cool to have to pass down when I die. (sorry is that morbid?)

  • 1.) Maybe - I love my rings but I recently found one that I love and would complement my e-ring nicely

2.) No idea - probably not for a few more years at least

    I love this one

This is one I like a lot too

My mom got an anniversary eternity band for her 10th anniversary. I don't think I want one -- I'm already going to get an eternity band for my wedding ring, and having two on either side of my e-ring would just be too much bling for me (or at least, for my hand). I'd rather get a necklace or earrings or something. ;) Or spend the money on a vacation, haha.
  • Sapphire, those rings are very pretty!
  • I have already told DH that I would like to have a diamond anniversary ring on our fifth anniversary. My e-ring is pretty wide, with one large stone and a mountain range around it. I'd like a small band with tiny diamonds to wear on the other side of the (plain) wedding band.

I'm trying to fight the urge to do PhD writing right now, because I've had a crazy few weeks and I really should make the most of the break! Any suggestions? I may bake later (aka when it's warmer) and other than that and bringing in the washing, I'm stumped.

  • 1) Are you planning on getting (/have you got) an eternity/anniversary ring?

eventually yes, i am getting a new ring. it won't have one big rock on it, it will be a wider band with some sort of design and small diamonds. we plan on passing my engagement ring down to our kid if we have one or our godson/nephew one day.

    2) If so, when will (/did) you get it?

     5-10 years.

Thanks! One of those would have been my wedding band if I'd found them when we were looking and I really wish we did - those are almost $1k cheaper than my wedding band was!

What do your wedding band/e-ring look like?

  • Thanks, Sun! It is very unique. There is a jeweler in Boulder, Colorado who does 'range rings' of all the mountain ranges in the state. Ours is the San Juan mountains as seen from the Durango ski area (southwestern Colorado). It is geographically correct, and we have a map of the peaks. DH has the same band without the stone. It is very special to us personally, as we have taken several backpacking trips in that mountain range and can point out places we have been on the rings. Might sound strange, but it is very meaningful to us.

    1) We are planning on it.
    2) Not sure, we have already been shopping for it, but I have told Mike I don't want it until at least five given that I want to save for other things.
    3) This is the one I am seriously eyeing and Mike loves it too. I am a right hand ring girl. Pink sapphire.

  • Les, that is really cool!

I probably won't get an anniversary band to put on the other side of my e-ring, but I would like to get a right hand ring at some point, just because I like nice jewelry. I love the one BostonBride919 got as a wedding gift (but who doesn't love pretty much her entire wedding): http://www.chattybrides.com/images/content/Wedding%20Recap%201g.jpg
