[QUOTE]If you are making them buy a long victorian style gown, then I absolutely think the price needs to be well within the budget they gave you, <strong>because you know there is NO way they are going to wear those again.</strong> Keep searching and I'm sure you will find something you can all live with.

This is a great point. It would be terrible to make them buy this victorian style dress that they'll never be able to wear again for "your vision".

[QUOTE]Buying from etsy and overstock is difficult since 60% of my bridesmaids have big breasts/preggo and or thick as it is. Buying online without trying them on is definately a shot in the dark. Good point though about shoe color. Except one of my bm's pointed out that getting long dresses for very tall people can be difficult. Ugh this is so difficult. I originally wanted to let everyone pick their own dress but I have since nixed that idea because I want a specific look. Where do I find a vintagev victorian dress with straps that will fit a thin and large person? I'm open to several styles mixed but I can't find them.

Did you seriously just call your bridesmaids "thick"? Really? They're your friends!!!

If you're being that specific, you'll have to pay for everything you want them to wear.  At this point, you're asking for costumes, not bridesmaids' dresses, and for costumes, you better ante up and pay for them.

For what it's worth, one of the last weddings I was in, the bride asked us to wear these: <a href="http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Style-Satin-Wide-Strap-Tea-Length-Dress-F14556_Bridal-Party-Bridesmaids-Shop-By-Color" rel="nofollow">http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Style-Satin-Wide-Strap-Tea-Length-Dress-F14556_Bridal-Party-Bridesmaids-Shop-By-Color</a>

They were beautiful and made everyone look stunning, even those that you would sadly consider "thick".  The pictures are incredible because everyone FEELS BEAUTIFUL (bonus, I had it shortened and have worn it again).
  • Oh lord. I was just trying to describe the different body types my friends have. What was the politically correct way I should've described them? Obviously I am trying to find a dress that will make them all comfortable since I didn't just pick one that I like and say deal with.

If it was my way or the highway I would've picked the $200 strapless dress that would only look good on a thin person. However, I do care about how they feel. I've been a bridesmaid in a very uncomfortable dress and that's not how I want my girls to feel.

I was asking for ideas on places to go and venting about how hard it's been to find dresses that will look good on everyone. I shot down department stores because I've already been there. Someone mentioned that shoes don't really matter with a long dress and I said that they had a point. Just because I didn't respond with kiss ass comments doesn't mean I'm shooting everything down.

Target on-line has a great selection of bridesmaids dresses in lots of colors for around $70.  And most of the time you get free shipping.

    Best of luck!

</div><div>I think it would have been sufficient to say that they all had different body types, and leave it at that.  If you must refer to weight specifically, I personally think that "bigger" is okay,  "Thick" is offensive.   Now you know.</div><div>
</div><div>It would have been helpful if you had mentioned in your original post that you had a specific style of gown you were looking for, and mentioned places you had already looked.  That's why it felt like you were shooting down everyone's ideas at first.  </div><div>
</div><div>If you have an example of a gown that you have seen and liked (but is out of your price range) then maybe if you post it, somebody could suggest something similar they have seen.  If not here, then try the Atire and Accessories board.  I suspect that you will probably have to order dresses online due to the unique style you're after, but most places work pretty well with measurements, and dresses can be altered if they don't fit perfectly.  Some of your "bigger" bridesmaids might be okay with a certain dress as long as they have a shawl or shrug or something to cover their boobies and upper arms, so this could be an optional accessory for a gown that otherwise might not work for them.

  • OP - it really seems like you're just angling for people to tell you that the $150 budget is unreasonable.  It's not.

You need to have a reality check and either modify your "vision" or YOUR budget and pay for dresses.
