Hellooo!

Re: Hellooo!

  • Oh, one thing I tend to freeze is chili.  I like making Rachel Ray's recipe for chicken chili.  Maybe that's an idea.
  • Thanks, Mrs. Jesse.  So far, I've only experienced a tropical storm (Debby, in the spring) since I've been in FL, but H's family is all here, so they're less excited about the incoming storm than I am.  Luckily, it looks like the storm is moving farther away from FL, so it's (hopefully) good news for us, but bad news for Lynda.

But I'll admit that Lynda's page to me made me fill up the kittens' water dispenser to make sure there's a full week's worth there and top off all the water containers we have in the house.  I always have this image of Fezz and her husband eating cold Poptarts to scare me into storm preparedness.
  • I could do chili.  I know for sure that she likes chili.  I freeze chili all the time too.

  • oohhh do chili and get some hot dogs and rolls....then they can make chili dogs :)
  • I want chili.  So bad.  It needs to stop being 95+ degrees here so I can make chili.
  • J, what about the classic tater tot hot dish? Or sloppy Joe and buns? Chili is a good idea. Freezes well.

And that is super nice of you.
    image
  • yes, J, very nice indeed.  I freeze soup sometimes.  Just remember to leave enough air space in the top of the container for it to expand.

  • Yes, soup freezes well also.

I'll pop back in a bit.  We're about to eat.
  • H fixed blue hake and shrimp with potatoes and green beans for dinner. Divine. He is really getting the hang of the griddle on our stove. He won't even let me use it! Not going to complain, though. 'Sure, honey, you can make supper again tonight.' YAY!
    image
  • J what about meatloaf?  I really like this recipe (click)

I just took a shower and discovered that a) my sunburn is worse than I thought and b) is in crazy strange patterns.  I have a red stripe down my back, a random blotch on my arm, patches just at the top of my knees, and my entire chest, minus three dots the size of pencil erasers (no idea how that happened).

  • Mica - are you still around?  Fill up your freezer with containers filled with water.  If you lose power you will have ice blocks to help keep your fridge cool.  Or you can put them in a cooler. As they melt you have water.  Plus a full freezer helps keep things frozen longer.  Especially if you limit how often you go into the freezer.

Dinner was great. Now DH and Chef D are sleeping.  I'm just hanging out.  I wanted to watch the football game.  But all they have on is hurricane stuff.  Kind of annoying because they really arent saying anything.  Just killing air time.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Hellooo! : Your three dots could be a lack of pigment! H has a patch on his chest that has no pigment, so no matter how burnt or tanned he is elsewhere, the patch is white.

  • Lynda - you have so many helpful hints.  I never would have thought of that ice block one.  Hopefully it will come back to me if I ever need to prepare for a storm or armageddon or something.

Dinner was good. BB is over.  The Carolina/Jets game seems to be halfway decent.  The score is close at least.
  • I am definitely a mutant.

    <div>Unfortunately, I've had practice.</div><div>
</div><div>In my unofficial professional opinion, it looks like the storm might go west of us.  Bad news.  The east side the the stronger side.  This storm is sneaky.  I really don't know what to think.  We might have to evacuate tomorrow.  That would suck.</div>

  • That would stink Lynda, but at least it's an option in NO.  And better safe than sorry.
  • Just had a little snippet "ad" for the news tonight.  They're tracking the storm for us.  *Newsflash* - it's not coming anywhere near Denver.  Now that I've done their job for them...
  • Lynda -- thank you for that tip.  I'm doing that right now!
  • That is hilarious.

<div>No problem. It's a little thing and doesn't cost any money, but can be helpful.</div><div>
</div><div>Do you have a grill?  Make sure it's secure in the garage.  That way if you lose power you still have a way to cook some stuff off so it doesn't go bad.   </div><div>
</div><div>Might be too late, but make sure you have cash on hand.  No power means you can't use cards.   Cash is king in these situations.  Also make sure your tank is full.</div>

  • Lyndasu, if there is ever some sort of natural disaster here in SoDak, I want you here with me. Prepared should be your middle name!

    </div><div>Pretty sure we're safe here, too. </div><div>
</div><div>I am actually considering putting bottles of water in the freezer though per Lynda's suggestion because that could be really handy just during a regular old power outage. </div>

    <div>LOL.</div><div>
</div><div>That's what happens when you live on a small island in the caribbean.  You have to take care of yourself because you can't just hop in a car and drive to safety and help is a good 5 days away.</div>

  • I'm running to the bank tomorrow morning.  I just filled up the car today.

I think we should have Lynda run a safety preparedness thing every time any area has a big scary storm coming in.  Lynda has the most useful advice I've heard yet.

</div><div>As I expected the 11pm just came out.  It has the storm hitting just barely west of us.  Meaning we will get the brunt of the storm.  We still have a few days, so who knows what is going to happen.</div>

  • True.  I'm hoping for the best for you Lynda.
  • Well, I'm gonna go spend some time with H (he's bored) and go to bed.

    G'night all!
  • Ah, sorry I never came back, but thanks for the suggestions, guys!  :)
