  • I like all three names (Ivy Rayn Helene) but personally I'm not big on giving multiple middle names.

    Ivy Rayn Helene Smith

Is Rayn supposed to be Rain?
TBH...  I don't get these trendy "special snowflake" spellings...  It looks cuter without the Rayn IMO.  Ivy Helene Smith
  • I really like it. Ivy is classic and Rayn is unique without being "too much".
  • If you are asking for my honest opinion:

    1) I dislike the four-piece name.  Three is enough.
    2) I dislike all three of the names before Smith, particularly "Rayn"

I understand that it's the trend these days for parents to come up with unique names to try to create individuality from the get-go, but think about what this girl is going to have to fill out on job applications, etc.

"special snowflake" - I like this description and I will be using it in the future. Thanks!!!
  • I like Ivy Helene. I do not like Rayn. What is that? Rain spelled in a special way?
  • I love the first name. Both of the middle names seem a little pretentious. I do like Ivy Helen, rather than Ivy Rayne Helene.

  • I love the name Ivy! It's my middle name and my mom's first name. It's not a name that I hear often either.

I'm not a huge fan of 4 names, but how often do you really need to use all 4 names? All the names you have are nice and the name flows nicely.

    Good luck with your decision!!!

I only care because I'm a teacher and then I have to figure out how the fu- to pronounce them and ponder wtf their parents were thinking when they decided this was a good name.

I get a lot of amusement from Baby's named a bad, bad thing.

TK keeps chewing it up and spitting it back out with random reply counts and not showing all of the replies.  O_o
  • I'm with Duds on this one.

I don't really care what someone else might name their kids.

<div>As a person with "four names" I use them as much as someone with three names. I don't think my name would sound right and it is a tradition in my family for the girls to have the third name Ann. I am biased, but I don't see anything wrong with four names. </div>
  • I like Ivy, don't like Rayn, I'm not big on people changing the spelling of things because it looks 'cute' or whatever, if you want Rain, just use it.

Also, be careful my niece was named Ebony Storme, she has the worst temper ever!
  • I'm just worrying that this kid is going to have more problems than recovering heroin addicts with no jobs and no home;  Oh, and no education at all.

Ivy Rayn  Helene is their child's "special " name although her last name will not be Smith or whatever.

This is the name my nephew and his girlfriend have chosen for their first child, due in May.  The Helene was my mom's name and they wantr to honor her by using it'

I don't mind special spellings (my name is M-a-r-l-y), but I'm not a fan of "Rayn." I like how it sounds but not how it looks.

I also think that "Rayn" disrupts the flow (and I do have two middle names). I like "Ivy Helene."

Also big on the 4 name thing.  I like Ivy Helene but not the Rayn at all.

I have to be honest - I have worked personnel for years and hundreds of names cross my desk any given week.  Not big on the trendy stuff and "unique" spellings that are just plain wierd.  When we see one that is "unique" we are prone to wonder if that person's parents nursing home will suck.  The one that stands out the most was Ghynnyfer.  When she turned 18 she legally changed her name to Jennifer and hated the original spelling and always having to explain her name to people.

    Ivy Helene is pretty.

ETA - that was supposed to say NOT big on the 4 name thing.

My idiot SIL named her baby haven rayn and I thought that sounded stupid. rayn isnt a name, its the misspelling of precipitation.
  • Oh great, here we go with all the Ivys. Thanks Trashonyce.
  • It's weird, but I have seen Rayn or Raine used somewhat commonly in my circle, I have always kind of liked it. Not enough to use it, but I certaintly don't hate it.
  • All I can think of is Blue Ivy, the daughter of Beyonce and JayZ. I think It sounds a little copycat. And I really dislike the name Blue Ivy. Sounds like a comic book name, like Poison Ivy, etc. And also not a fan of the Rayn spelling. Recently, I saw a salesperson with the name tag Aryck. Business card showed his email address used the spelling Eric. At my company, email addresses are always your given names (a coworker goes by middle name but his email address has to use his given first name. They are both biblical "normal" names, I think he's just a Jr so uses middle name to differentiate). I don't understand why the salesperson, Aryck, would change the spelling of his name and his email address is wrong... It's comes off as attention seeking. And then I associated it with Aryan, which I think there was a big thread on a few months ago.... I guess I sound judgey!

  • I don't care what people name their babies, not really, but...

I would not name my kid Ivy Rayn Helene. Ever.

  • Rayn looks like the typo the photographer used for H's name.
  • My honest opinion? Not a fan at all. Ivy - eh, it was ok before Blue Ivy Carter came around. Rayn? No thanks. I'm with most people that Ivy Helene is pretty.

I don't know if it matters, but "Ivy H." doesn't sound great, but it doesn't sound bad either.
  • Ivy Helene is beautiful! Rayn, not so beautiful. Love, love, LOVE Helene! When us the baby due?

  • I'm going with the crowd here, I like Ivy Helene, and think Rayn is just awful. The thing to me is not even the "uneekness" or the misspelling, but all of those long vowels together just sounds really awkward. I actually like Ivy Helen because it flows a lot prettier; could that still be considered an homage to your mom? Like, my grandmother was an Emma, my dad wasn't crazy about that name, so I'm an Emily.

  • Eep. If that's what they name their kid... I feel sorry for her. My name is spelled all wonky and no one can EVER spell it. Britanee. Pronounced Britnee. FI jokingly calles me Bri TAH nee. Best man just calls me Bratnee.

My brother's middle name is Sky. He freaking hates it. To make matters worse.. they really wanted a girl to name Dakota but they got a boy. So they named him Dakota Sky (which, yes, Dakota is a male name [it's FI's name, actually. lol] but is very popular for girls). My dad tried to name my sister Harley (middle name Davidson) but his wife stole the birth certificate back and named her Sierra Ashley. I find it highly hilarious that both of my siblings are named after trucks. (Yes, I do believe that was planned.)

FI wants to name our first daugher Dacoda (pronounced Dakota)..... Um, NO. He jokes: daddy Dakota, uncle Dakota, baby Dacoda. Ick.
