Just curious -old, new, borrowed, blue?

This is probably more suited to C&T, but whatever.  My mom is bugging me to figure it out.  Just curious if anybody followed this tradition, and if so what was your old, new, borrowed, and blue?  So far I have:

Old: grandmother's earrings
New: .....?  does the dress count?
Borrowed: .....?
Blue: the frilliest garter you've ever seen

  • I kind of did but not because I wanted the tradition of it, if that makes sense. It all just kind of happened.

Old - My grandma on mom's side handerchief
New - Dress, veil, all kinds of things.
Borrowed - My grandpa on dad's side wedding band (borrowed because grandma still wears it around her neck)
Blue - My necklace and wedding band (sapphires)

My grandma tried to make me wear a penny in my shoe. Didn't happen. No place to put it in my Toms.
  • Old/borrowed:  one of my nana's hankies that I got from my aunt
    New: dress/shoes
    Blue:  undies
  • My Old will be a locket containing pictures of my maw-maw and paw-paw (mom's parents) that my maw maw wore when paw paw was off fighting in WWII.  It's going to be tied to my bouquet.

My New is my wedding ensemble.

I have no clue what my borrowed will be yet.

Blue will likely be my garter.

  • old - FI grandmothers crystal earrings - they are only half old because I updated them from the old screw clip ons to regular posts
new - I could count a lot of things, but my Aunt gave me a pretty hankie at my shower to use at my something new
borrowed - veil from a bridesmaid who was recently married
    blue - shoes
  • Old -- my great-grandmother's wedding band
    New -- my jewelry
Borrowed -- H's Nana's lace handkerchief from Switzerland
Blue -- a tiny bluebird charm I affixed to my clutch.

Old/Borrowed - a brooch I borrowed from my mom that was allegedly my dad's aunts or something like that. I had a really hard time with these two categories!

I didn't really mean to do it, but...

Old: brooch of my grandmother's that I incorporated into my hairpiece

New: awesome giant earrings that a friend made for me

Borrowed: charm that H's aunt gave me to carry in my bouquet (I didn't know that was happening until the morning of the wedding, and I haven't seen her again since then so I haven't been able to return it... not sure if this counts.)

Blue: my hairpiece included peacock feathers

My MIL also gave me a silver sixpence to put in my shoe, since they're English and apparently that's one of their traditions. That thing hurt my toes like crazy so it came out as soon as the ceremony was over. =)  But I still have it tucked away with my earrings and the charm from the aunt.

  • Old: Pearl necklace and earrings that were my great grandmother's.  When she died about ten years ago, my great aunt had then restored and put away for me.  I didn't know any of this until she surprised me with them at my bridal shower.

    New: Dress, shoes, veil, etc.

Borrowed and Blue: Handkerchief that is white with blue trim.  My mom, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt all wore it somehow on their wedding days.  I pinned it under my dress.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Just curious -old, new, borrowed, blue? : The best place to put the coin is under the arch of the foot.  It tends to cause the least discomfort, unless the bride has fallen arches or a similar issue.

If I ever have a daughter, I will let her know.

I think my heels were high enough that the coin kept sliding around no matter where we put it. (I have high-ish arches, so there's always room in my shoes.) It was either wedged into the ball of my foot or sitting right under my toes. Either way, it was fun to have had it.

  • I had intended to wear a strand of pearls my grandmother had given my mom as my borrowed/old, but it broke 4 days before the wedding :(

Old - diamonds (from my grandmother's wedding band) in a necklace I carried in my bouquet
New  - dress, shoes, necklace, earrings
Borrowed - pearl bracelet from my mom
    Blue - garter and flowers

I didn't plan to have a borrowed after the pearl necklace broke, but my mom offered her pearl bracelet to me the morning of and it happened to work.
  • Old: My grandmother's handkerchief tucked into my bouquet.
New: Dress, veil, shoes, jewelry, everything I wore pretty much.
Borrowed: I'd planned to have my H's grandma's rosary around my bouquet, but they couldn't find it last minute. So we considered his grandma's cake knife as our "borrowed" something.
Blue: I wore a blue crystal cuff bracelet.

I also had a penny in my shoe.
  • For my wedding 15 years ago (almost) I had
    Old: My grandma's pearl necklace
    New: Dress, shoes, headband
    Borrowed:
Blue: a tiny blue ribbon rose on my otherwise ivory garter

    DD will be having
Old: still up in the air, but a contender is my late mother's wedding rings tied into her bouquet
New: Her FI is getting her pearl earrings
    Borrowed: Diamond tennis bracelet
    Blue: Garter
And, she doesn't know it yet, but we have a sixpence with her dad's birth year for in her shoe.
