An Etiquette disaster

I just saw a facebook friend "liked" a link to her friend's wedding website with the caption, "Start getting some ideas about where YOU will be & where you WANT to be in October." I hope she's inviting all her facebook friends! The real icing on the cake is her registry tab on the wedding website. Prepare to cringe.

She says that, while they value the traditon of gifts, they feel checks and "monetary donations" will help their wedding go farther... and contribute to their "well being" ?? Don't worry.. if you still want to give them a gift, they won't refuse it! And they make it easier by setting up a Paypal account!

reallllly?

  • That is ridiculous. Also, "alot" is two words so those people doubley annoyed me.

  • Yikes.

That message would prompt me to not give anything as a gift.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I think your friend desperately needs a set of mauve monogrammed bath towels.

  • Please feel free to share these tidbits as she posts them.  They are great lessons for the newbs.

And about those Mauve towels?  I redecorated my new bathroom in mauve!  25  years ago.  I vote for embroidered/bedazzeled/garish mauve towels.

A couple I know gave themselves a "greenback party" before they got married. The bride-to-be actually asked a guest who had given them a lovely antique silver pitcher "So what's the story? I don't see any cash?!"

I tried this. She was one of those brides who pretty much Z-snapped and screamed "Y'all don't know me!" all over the boards when criticized.

  • Holy cripes. Some people.

I also would give them the most useless gift possible. Like an outdated version of software with no user key or something. Maybe Quickbooks would be appropriate so they can organize and manage their expected financial wedding windfall?

<div>Make sure you cut off the tage, or mark them through with a black line to make them even MORE not returnable.  And wrap them in separate boxes.  At least 6.</div><div>
</div><div>Wow.  And wasn't it nice of them to say that they wouldn't refuse gifts?!?  Wow.</div>

  • I give people like this dollar-store kitchen gadgets with no handle grips. Everyone needs a can opener!
  • Wow how old is this bride and how has nobody talked her out of this before she went SO public with that information??
