It's my day so I can do what I want"

I am bored at work, and in wedding overload excitement, since i'm 5 days out :) I am clicking through old boards wasting time. . . . and it is alarming how much this phrase comes up! Who is drilling into brides' heads that they can do whatever they want irrespective of etiquette and manners.

I can't tell if my favorite is the bride with the really bad idea etiquette-wise whose response post is a foot stomp and an "it's my day and this is how I want it to be" ala Veruca Salt OR the weird anti-etiquette posters who rush into wayward bride's defense to say, "but it's your day, it's all about what you want and what you like, and if you want to make your guests stand in a field with angry skunks while they watch your ceremony you should"

That's all, just an observation. . . . please feel free to return to your regularly scheduled posting

  • I was so ready to jump on some newb bride who was stomping her foot!  Bummer.

    Congrats on being so close!
  • Have you read about the idea to have paintball instead of a dollar dance on Reception Ideas (it's a fairly recent post with 40+ responses)?  Should provide some entertainment.  Enjoy these last few days pre-wedding!

Sweet baby jebus, that guy has issues. . . . I saw it yesterday.  Did anyone ever ask how his poor bride felt about the possibility of being pelted with paintballs?  I need to check it out again.  It seems reminiscent of a public stoning to me. . . . not an ideal start to a marriage, lol.
  • Wow. Paintball might be fun as a trash the dress photo session, but not as part of the wedding festivities.

I did!  I was wondering how his fiancee, the one who was (I assume) putting some time and money into a beautiful dress, felt about this idea.  The way he framed it was "give people a chance to air their grievances with me through paintball."  Pretty bizarre for a wedding, IMO.

Like people paying for the opportunity to hit the groom with paintballs somehow makes it okay to ask people for money??? How bizarre. When we were planning, our guests' comfort and convenience was probably our top priority, no questions asked. I don't think "it's OUR DAY" was even part of our wedding vocabulary. But then again, we were getting married to, you know, start a life together, not just as an excuse to have a big party and be the center of attention. Edited to fix iPad typos....
