Didn't pick up on no children invited

FI did NOT want kids at the wedding or reception. We invited, obviously our ring bearer and flower girl and that was about it.  When we addressed invites we made sure we addressed to who we wanted to attend (didn't put and children or their names.  Strictly Mr./Ms. when applicable). 

Just got a RSVP back from FI step cousin.  They put Mr. and Mrs.__ ___ and son. 

Their son is 2.  FI is not happy. 

How can we tactfully handle this???

Call them up and explain that the invitation was just for Mr and Mrs.

Ditto.  Call them and say, "Hey, we just got your response and we're excited you can make it.  We do apologize for any miscommunication but unfortunately the invitation was to just you two.  Please let us know if you need the name of a local sitter."

Ditto PPs...you need to call them now so they can make childcare arrangements. Also be prepared for the fact that they may choose to decline the invite if their son isn't invited.

Yep. I know it will be ackward, but if you let them get away with it, then everyone else will bring their kids too. Good luck!

I dread having to make those phone calls and I'm sure I'll have to. However, his family, his phone call;) Tell them if they bring their child, you have to make exceptions for everyone and space just won't allow for it. Good luck! I feel your pain.
