*Sun* & other late night knotties

Re: *Sun* & other late night knotties

  • Hey dear! My monday is going quite alright. H and I have this week (and next, for that matter) off work. I spent this morning baking (mostly to no avail, but hey!) and now it's 4pm and I am chilling with beer in hand. I keep meaning to round up H and clean the bathrooms and vacuum but it's just not happening! ;P

What about you- how was your weekend?

  • My weekend went quite well. Cory and i went shopping. We used up some wedding gift cards to fulfill one of our registries.  I am ridiculously excited about some kitchen gadgets that I've never had before.

I baked some traditional Norwegian cookies/breads (they defy either category) and I think I may finish up my holiday baking tomorrow with chocolate dipped pretzels, sugar cookies and pies.

I went to a lovely bridal shower for a friend today and then some shopping as i finally figured out what to get DH for Christmas, only to return home to a big wrapped present under the tree with my name on it and a Jeweler's bag hanging from one of the branches.  I think it's finally feeling like the holidays.

And not to make you jealous, but we've got snow forcasted for Christmas eve.
  • Hey, you changed the title!

I'm about to head to bed...I'm absolutely exhaused.  This cold is kicking my a$$.  I felt great yesterday, but today I feel like shiit.

But I finally got my luggage back (it did not arrive in NY with me, was supposed to be delivered last night but we got 2 feet of snow) and my mom and I were able to get into the city to see the New York City Ballet's production of The Nutcracker.

Now if I could only get my damn computer to connect to the internet...damn Vista...(I'm on my dad's laptop)

I'm glad you got to see the ballet!  I wouldn't have been able to handle not going if i had had tickets.

Silly East coasters.  Two feet of snow isn't a lot.

  • Dude, I went to school in upstate NY where 2 feet was standard.  LI just isn't equiped to deal with this, although they've been doing a pretty good job at keeping on top of it.  We also got the 2 feet in 24 hours, so it was pretty intense.

I'm SO GLAD that we were able to see it!  I had been looking forward to it for so long and it would have sucked to just be out all of that money since they don't do refunds/exchanges.  The house was actually pretty full considering all of the weather, but I feel awful for the people who lost hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars in tickets.  There was a group of about 8 empty seats behind us...that would have been around 1k.

We have a manual that I just never can get a decent grip on.  Maybe my hands are too small.  An electric one isn't needed but I think it makes me oddly happy.

Maybe try something a little less delicate? Pie, breads and cut out cookies are always my easy choices.  Although, my sister made peanut butter cookies with the hershey kiss in the center and now I'm craving them.

    Morning Whit!

How are the drunks treating you?
  • I'm here. Its still Sunday for me, and it was a very shiity one at that. I'm ready to crawl into a hole and not come out until all the winter holidays are done.

  • Yeah, I think my macaroons not working out may have had something to do with the fact that the door of the oven fell of midway through when I was checking on them (!!!) thus the heat escaped and they weren't cooked as they should have been.

I am a fairly good cook when it comes to dinners etc, but apparently not so good at baking!

And hey girls! I'm surprised there's so many of you still online.

  • I'm actually shocked at the amount of people online.  I figured it would just be you and me.
  • Its only 1054 here. I will be up for quite awhile. I just normally don't post over here that much anymore.
Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App
  • Well I guess usually I am home an hour later from work, but it's generally just me here at that time.
  • Haha. I'm home now anna, and I'm up because it takes me mind a while to settle down. I've only got a few more pages to go in my book, then I'll be crashing.

  • I am WAY stressed about everything wedding tonight.  I couldn't sleep, so I got up.  I'm sure theknot is not going to alleviate any of this stress, either, but I don't know where else to go anymore!  :)

  • squirrly:  what's up?  Maybe we can help alleviate your wedding stress
  • I made soup! For the first time in my life!

I mean, I've made SOUP. Like, open a can, pour it in a bowl kind of soup, but not like, from a recipe.

But there's only two of us, and I didn't really reason out that the recipe made a metric asston of soup before I made it. So I've got a lot of soup. So the entirety of my Monday plans involve portioning soup into reasonable serving sizes and freezing it.

Man it's a thrill a minute around here these days.

... you CAN freeze soup, right?

On bed rest since Groundhog's Day and every day since has been exactly the same.

  • I'm just stressing out about the week ahead. I had planned to work until about noon on Christmas eve and then drive 6 hours to see my family. Well my boss decided I couldn't be off by noon and I now have to work til 730 and then have a 6 hour drive ahead of me. I could wait and do it in the morning, but knowing me my alarm would go off so we could catch the 5:20am ferry and I'd be like screw it we aren't going. Its just frustrating.

Plus my car insurance agency has decided to screw me over and charge me $225 a month when I can get the exact same coverage at another company for $100. I have no accidents and no tickets on my record. The only thing I have going against me is I'm under 25. So my current agency is making me jump through so many stupid hoops just to cancel my policy. Its just infuriating.

  • TJ: most soups freeze quite well
  • I'm at 4.5 months to go, and I suddenly feel like the number of things to do and buy and plan and organize and all is overwhelming.  I feel like I don't have a firm vision of what everything should look like that day, so I don't even know where to go or what to buy.  And I feel like there's a huge set of expectations to live up to, for a variety of reasons, and that I have no idea how to do that.

  • I second anna, freeze your soup and reheat again when you want it. Makes for easy dinners.

Squirrly, what exactly is stressing you?

Ciarm, sucks that you have to work so late on Christmas eve!

(sorry, ran off to continue rolling my white rum and chocolate truffles. They're sticky, but they do look quite cute. Yay, achievement!)

  • Oh, and we're so not into the same honeymoon plans at all.

  • Yay for truffles!  I wish I could make some kind of holiday dessert that my DH would crave.  He's not a sweets person.  Major downer when I make cookies or cakes and he's not even in the mood for sugar.
  • And, I really suspect a significant number of my friends are going to be lame and not attend.  They're all 3 - 5 years ahead of me relative to marriage and kids, and my engagement was special for about 2.2 seconds when we got together this summer & they proceeded to tell me how babies were so much more exciting.  And the horrors of childbirth and how sex while preggo sucks and all sorts of other things.  I'm happy for them that they've got little ones, and we want our own, too.  But I'm irritated that they've discounted my life.

Overall, I'm worried that the wedding is going to be a huge flop and not fun and a waste of my planning time and our money.
