Should we or shouldn't we register.......that is the question?

Me and my fiance have lived together for five years, so I'm not sure if we should register or not. I mean we have everything for the house and this is my second wedding his first. But we have filled our house mainly with things that were givin to us by friends and family so we really don't have full sets of anything. Would it be wrong to register some where to re-decorate our home ?

  • If you are getting married, people will give you gifts.  If you register, some of those gifts will definitely be things that you want.  There's no reason not to do an "upgrade" type registry.

I would do it.  It's often easier for guests (they get an idea of what you want) and less of a gift-gamble for you.

  • It's perfectly fine to register. PP is right, you will get some gifts, and this way, you are more likely to get something that you want.

  • Register. Most people will give gifts either way, and if you register at least most people will get you something that you want. If I would have thought of it I would have registered at Lowes or Home depot, since there were not many things we needed, but there were a lot of upgrades we wanted done in the house.

I would definitely register. FI and I have lived together for quite some time, so most of our registered items will be upgrades, updates or fill-ins, but that's really OK as long as you have plenty of price points represented.

  • We are in the same boat and did what you suggested.  We needed a lot of basics, actually.  Most of our pans are in terrible shape.
