Thank You Card Etiquette?

So, I just got a call from one of the stores we're registered at, saying there is a gift for me to go pick up (Exciting!)

Now, I'm getting conflicting answers from people/the interwebs about what to do thank-you-card-wise.

Do I send a thank you card now, or do I wait until after the event to send the card (I don't even know if this gift is for the bridal shower or for the wedding... Hopefully there's a note or something)? It just feels so strange waiting because the shower is a month away, and the wedding is a month and a half away...

I think I would go ahead and send it now as well. That way they know you received it. Hopefully it will have a little card with the gift that says something like "sorry we couldn't make it to your shower" or "congrats on your wedding" that way you can be specific in your TY. But if not, just write the note and be done with it.

Send it NOW! You will have so much going on before, during and after the wedding, you'll be thankful you got some of them out of the way. TRUST me on this one.

Send the Thank You notes as the gifts come in.

Send the thank you card now. Then they know you have it and you will have less to do as other ones come in.

Ditto.  Ever send someone a gift through the mail and wonder if the receiver actually GOT the darn thing?  This lets the sender know that it arrived.

Definitely don't use it until after the wedding.

We just received our first gift - our china set. My wonderful aunt was just excited to send something, I think. I sent the thank you note and wrote something to the effect of "Thank you for the lovely china - FI and I can't wait until July to use it. When you are in town later this year we'd love to have you over for dinner."

Agreed with PP Send it now so they know it was received and (hopefully) received in one piece. Take a look at it to make sure it came in okay, just in case something did break you can get it taken care of ASAP.
