FI help.

Please give me good things to say to my FI to convince him we should adopt a kitten.

It needs to happen. Bad. I was thinking of just having him going to see the kittens and then his heart will melt and my animal family will grow by one.

  • Oh and when we went to the movies we saw a crazy preview for the new HP movie so I am going to take time during my fun-ployment and re-read my harry potter books, and THEN read the rest of the books that I haven't read already.

Ok lets come up with good cat names from our favorite books.

  • Got to be honest.  I love cats, but  the odds of me owning a kitten are slim to none.  I'm convinced the only people who want kittens are the ones that have never lived with one.
They like to take their needle like claws and climb up your bare skin, you have to pluck them off the curtains etc, once they figure out they can't go higher but don't know how to get down, etc etc.

  • When we got my cat she was still sick from living in a dumpster and she still had worms so I really have never had the true craaaazy kitty experience. She definitely made up for it later, but she was initially too sick to be crazy.

  • AW, I've had my Jak since he was a kitten & he was never a 'holy terror' or anything.  Granted, yes, he needs active play time & stimulation, but never once climbed up my curtatins/drapes.

I think the kitten times are great, because you can train them how you deem fit.  Teach them what is and is not ok, etc.

    Good luck

(BTW I'm not allowed to have another kitty until our older Prittie-cat is gone,...she doesn't handle new animals too well & had it rough enough moving to PA from NY)...

    Post pics please!!! :-)

I think it's a luck of the draw thing. I had one kitten when I was a kid that was like this and I wasn't particularly fond of him. Now I have two great cats that were never a menace while they were growing up (except for the occasional counter roaming).
  • Leave pics like this all over the place...
    :)
That's what I would do. Did that with our puppies. And then went to the shelter and picked one up (one that we got) and she wouldn't let me put her down. So I said "Look, she wants to go home with us" and did my pretty pleaseeee face. It worked. Now we have two. Second was HIS idea. See sig pic. :D WIN!

  • I think you are much better off with two kittens. We just got two, and when they are feeling rambunctious they just chase each other around until they get tired. Much better this way, and much less destructive. Plus, then you can look forward to this:

  • The woman we might get the kittens from had 5 kittens, but the mommy took away two of them so now she has three. My parents will be adopting two of them, for some reason my mom is putting her foot down with three?, so I feel bad about leaving the one alone.

We (the dog and cat and I) just had a family meeting in the kitchen and I think we want to go with this.

Only problem is I have no idea how to litter box train a cat. My little cat might have been living in a dumpster but the people that rescued her taught her how to use the littler box. Everything I read says that you just put them in the box and they will figure it out. I wonder if that is the same for barn cats.

  • I've never had to train one either, but I'd imagine that having an older cat around will help the kitten figure it out.

  • Rosie, it's true.  Cat's are ridiculously easy to litter train.  The only thing you might want to do, is get a second box for the new one.  They don't generally like to share.

Personally, I got one of the super fancy self cleaning one's and it was the best thing ever.

Buddy would only use it if it was off and if he saw it in action he freaked and wouldn't go near it.  Bella would use it and then just sit there until it moved so she could attack it.  She then figured out how to get it to activate even if she didn't use the box.
It was a failure in our house.

  • Mine came from the humane society litter box trained. It was really just about the best thing ever.

  • easy to leave alone for a day or two.  or for extended trips, it's easier to get someone to drop in for a couple hours every couple days.

    easy to clean up after.

    easy to feed.

    they sleep a lot.

    they're so cute and cuddly.

and you might be saving one's life.

they ARE super easy to litter train. have fun!
  • I am exhausted after another fairly poor sleeping night due to my two 13 year old cats.  I think it is pretty well determined that I am all catted and kittened out.

I'll be damned if I get another one ESPECIALLY a kitten.
