Black Friday

Ever go?

I went over to the states and was at Neman Marcus today and fell in love with a pair of shoes.  Can't afford the price tag though, but the sales guy hinted that they will be ridiculously priced on black friday.

Are the malls completely crazy / insane?  Is it worth going?  Do stores usually have website sales too on black friday?

Re: Black Friday

  • I've always tried to not even leave the house on Black Friday. The bargain shoppers drive me up the freaking wall. Just trying to get through a parking lot makes me go all road rage.

And stupid me, my mom's gonna be in town then and I told her we'd go to the mall to get pedicures that day. Ugh.

  • I do everything in my power not to go to any retail outlet on black friday... too many crazies out Tongue out

  • I worked retail through enough Black Fridays to not want to go shopping on that day ever.  However, there is a pair of shoes that are ridiculously priced.... perhaps Nordstrom will have a good Black Friday sale.  And if so, I will go.

    I agree.

I have heard of people going and as long as you get up super early, you can get really great deals.  I've only been to the mall on Black Friday and I'm all set after one day of doing that.  Never.again.

  • Do these stores like Norstorm / Banana Republic / Neman Marcus have amazing on-line deals as well?

Crazy people and crowds are not my thing - I'd love to buy them online on black friday.

I don't actually know, but the Monday after Thanksgiving is called "Cyber Monday" (more recently) and I think that's when a lot of stuff online goes on sale.

  • I have gone out only a couple of years. I would definitely suggest that if you are 100% sure of what you want and which store has the best deal its not too bad. However if you are going with NO gaol in mind of specific products it is NOT worth it. We had fun cause I went with a friend and we made a game out of it, and then went out to breakfast after before we passed out for the remainder of the sunlit hours.
  • Cyber Monday is when you'll find a lot more electronics deals, but there are deals on other things, too.

I won't set foot near a store on Black Friday. God forbid I have to pick up something at Target like a prescription.

My SIL loves it all. I think she may be going to NYC with my aunt for a day trip by bus. No thanks. I'm spending the day sock sliding and driving J around the WV countryside.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • I'm one of the crazies - I really like getting the super good deals.  You have to do your research and check out the Sunday paper the week before T-day.

  • You would have to check store policies to be certain, but my daughter and I have been doing this for a few years and it has served us well......

We shop on the Wednesday just BEFORE Thanksgiving.....the stores are completely stocked and ready for Black Friday (since most stores are closed Thursday/Thanksgiving)....but.....there are NO crowds!  We have our pick of styles/colors/sizes......then we merely check ads for the weekend, bring our receipts in when the dust settles----usually Sunday afternoon.....and...........price adjustments!  It's a beautiful thing :-)
  • I'm also a Black Friday crazy.  An aunt of mine have made it a tradition to go together every year, and we are both pretty bummed we can't this year.  There's sites like www.blackfriday.net that have tips of what the stores ads will be.

I saw on yahoo that target is going to have a 40" tv for $298.  I'm going to look into it but I'm contemplating going there to get it for FI so he can have a new flat screen in his man zone when he comes home.

Most stores do their sales online too.  Sometimes they mark their big sale items as sold out though ahead of time online.  But I agree that Cyber Monday is the big one for online sales.

  • I always work on Black Friday because I run a store. We rarely do sales, so my store is never crazy. But this year we have a lot of deals so it'll be crazy. I have to be here at 5:30 a.m. until about 3.

  • My dad got a computer once for $200 like 5 years ago when that was really cheap for computers.  He also got me a kate spade bag for $99.  True fax.

[QUOTE]I saw the list that was leaked about Target too, and the $298 tv sounds too good to be true. If it's not, though, then it would be worth going!

Yeah it will be interesting to see their ad.  I know if I do decide to go get it, I will have to get in line at like 3:30 probably if they open at 5.

  • I think it depends where you go. Our local mall is crazy in the morning but by afternoon dies down a lot. Well that's what happened last year.

My mom had no clue what black friday was (how I don't know!) until last year. She told me how she stopped at best buy that afternoon to get something and I went "on Black Friday!"  and she went "What's that?". She apparently found parking and there was no line in the store.

  • Yeah later on in the day the stores are pretty empty.  But for something thats really popular or a great deal it will never be in stock after a few hours, if even that long.  Things like TVs usually disappear within the first few minutes.

  • Places like Neiman's or Nordstrom are usually ok, wal-mart or Target? Full of insane people. Just get there around 6:30 or 7 and you should be fine.

I would check on this.  Last year stores were opening at 5 am.

  • I love shopping on Black Friday, but I'm crazy.

Here's a link to all of the BF ads, as they get leaked/published.

FYI - Some stores are opening at 3/4 am (Kohls/Target,etc)  Some specials are considered "early bird" and are only available in the opening hours.  Also, many of the "big ticket" items have limited availability in stores, so if there's something that you REALLY want, you may have to get in line while it's still dark.

  • I usually always go Black Friday shopping. I don't get up at 5 AM to get the really good sales; I honestly just enjoy the energy and I love shopping! The malls do get crazy and parking is hell, so just be prepared! I'd also recommend against eating at mall food courts during like the entire Christmas season.

However, this year is the first year I'm not going because I will be shopping for a WEDDING GOWN instead!! Yay :)

  • One of our local malls is opening at MIDNIGHT for Black Friday. All stores (I'm told) have to open. Whether they have specials or not.
