XP: Cake decisions!

I'm so sorry to invade the etiquette board but there isn't much traffic over on the cake forum.  I've posted my three favorite cake designs and I can't determine a winner so please give me your opinion!  Thank you! :)

Re: XP: Cake decisions!

  • I like the last one.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I like the first and third, with my vote going to the first.

  • I like the first one best, but I'd like it better if it was round. I don't know why.

  • I like the last one a lot, the other two not so much.  I'm more of a minimalist, and I think the last one combines a nice design without going too overboard.  I also prefer round cakes over square ones.

  • I like the last one the v way it is... Not sure if t would still have my vote if it was all purple .

I'm with this. I like the last cake a lot, but I don't know how I feel about it being all the quilted purple.

Eta: my cake was dark purple and white. If I can find a picture, I'll show it to you.
  • 3,1,2.

Question about the second cake.  Will it be frosted or covered in fondant?  If the baker is using buttercream or some other type of colored frosting, the fact that it is super dark will cause quite a few of your guests to have purple mouths and teeth.  Just something to be aware of, especially with pictures constantly being taken.

  • I like the first and last ones.
  • I like the third cake as is. The combination of the designs on alternating tiers is what makes it so beautiful and interesting. If you modify it to all over purple the effect is not the same.

I also like the first cake. However, I would have the seam piping on each layer in white and then have the scroll work/ vines and leaves in graduating shades of purple (an ombre, from deep purple to light lavender).

  • I like the last one the best, hands down. But, I agree with PP's to leave the colors as is. Less is more when using a strong color.

  • What if I did the third cake but instead of all purple I alternated the purple with white "stitching" with the white with purple "stitching"? It would provide more contrast...
  • I like the last one as well, but am not so fond of the topper, for some reason.  Maybe because after all the clean lines it's suddenly organic?  Dunno.

As my other post says, I'm doing a different cake topper.
  • I like the last one. The other ones are a bit too busy for me.

Then again, we're having a quilted look for our top tier so I may be biased :)
