Where do you shop

for work clothes? My new office is really casual. I'm not quite ready to wear shorts to work, but I'd like to get some fun summer clothes that could be good for the office or out with friends. But, it's got to be budget friendly.

I'm thinking capri pants, cute skirts, comfy shoes, etc. I'm open to suggestions of specific items, and places you love to shop.

  • I'm a Kohls girl myself. They have a lot of options for me top wise that are pretty and fun yet not revealing for the teenage boys I interact with.
  • Banana Republic....the sale rack. Always. same for J Crew. But the trick is that I never buy full price. I'm too cheap for that.

Ditto! They're always having great sales online. Also, New York and Company has some cute stuff for pretty good prices.

  • I'm short, so I can usually find some pretty good deals in BR petites. I can usually find some kahki capris and stuff in Old Navy and cute tops in Macy's.

If you and DH have a car, the Wrentham outlets aren't that far from Boston (about an hour) and they have really great stuff for some good prices too :)

  • I never find anything at JCrew. I think I get frustrated there so quickly. Any recent purchases (for anybody, any store) you want to brag about?

  • I shop at Maurices...because it's semi-affordable and we don't have a lot to choose from. They have cute business suits with skirts/pants/vests/etc.
  • Kate, we've got two cars. I just don't know how to find anything except my inlaw's house and the train station! :D Which direction is Wrentham?

  • I'm a banana republic girl. I'm a luxe card holder (which is a bad thing, it means you shop there too much) but i get great coupons. I have a $20 rewards now, and I was recently given a 50% off my purchase coupon.

I also like J. Crew and Gap. Those are my usual stops. I like Loft because their sizes run big, so I'm usually a smaller size.

And I'm also a big Target girl.

  • Also I can only buy jeans at Target. Seriously. At any other store I will try on every pair of jeans and not be able to find one that fits my body well. Target apparently markets to curvy women with ample hips and thighs.

  • Ann Taylor Loft and NY&Co. are my favorites. Sometimes The Limited.

If you make Mark buy it for you (or if you have your own spouse id), military discount is 15% at NY&Co.

  • Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor LOFT, BR, GAP, JCrew. I love BR and JCrew but I can never justify buying stuff. I'm not a big shopper/clothes person though.

Oh yes, I am so glad I have it. I can't think of any others that do, are there any good ones you've found?

J Crew has a student discount, I was pretty excited when I found that one out.

The Sateen Cropped Pants from Ann Taylor -- /> http://www.anntaylor.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=24738&N=1200009&categoryId=118&pCategoryId=3939&Ns=CATEGORY_SEQ_118&Nty=1&No=14&loc=TN&defaultColor=Black&defaultSizeType=Regular

I got them in both colors and I absolutely love them. I thought I would only wear them to work (full disclosure: I work part time for Ann Taylor), but I actually wear them more than jeans, even on the weekends. So comfortable and lots of clients have loved them.

Also, the Ann Taylor semi-annual sale is going on right now, so there are a lot of marked down items in the store.

  • Lowes gives 10% all the time, but just to active duty ID holders. If you ask nicely, though, they often will give me the discount anyway, I've found. So far, that's it besides travel discounts. Ski resorts almost always have discounted lift tickets, and when we use VRBO.com we usually get 10% or so.

I need to get in the habit of asking when I go places.

Ann Taylor, too, though I swear no one ever knows about it. With a valid student ID, you get 20% off your full price purchase--just have to ask at the register for it.

Any ID from a college or high school that wasn't expired and didn't have anything like "Faculty" stamped on it.

  • When I was still working in an office, I got everything - EVERYTHING - from B. Moss. It was the perfectly blend of business casual with age appropriateness for someone in her 20s. The physical stores all closed, I believe, and it came back as online only, but last time I checked, it just wasn't the same at all. It looks like it's gotten a LITTLE better. Their sales are always great and the prices are reasonable and they always had such a nice collection of dresses.
