What role should my 6 year old daughter have in my wedding?

I am engaged to married next september (2011). I have a 6 year old daughter from a previous relationship. I know that i want her to be part of the wedding party, i just dont know which would be more appropriate for her, flower girl or junior bridesmaid. i heard etiquette with junior bridesmaids says they should start no younger then 9. i also have a 3 years old niece i am having as my flower girl. i just want my daughter to have an important role in my big day. Suggestions?? Please :)

  • I would say flower girl.  I think 6 is a little young for junior bridesmaid.  It's fine to have two flower girls.
  • Why don't you ask her what she would like to do? She could even be your MOH is you wanted her to be. There's no "etiquette" on how old a junior bridesmaid has to be.

  • First, I would ask your daughter what, if any, role she would like to play in the wedding party.  Perhaps she would just want to sit and watch.  If she wants to be apart of the wedding party, I think her being a flowergirl would be the most appropriate role.

  • I had 2 flower girls..they are now my step daughters.  One is 4 and the other is 7 and they LOVED it.  Serious smiles and happiness.

But as PP mentioned, you can ask her and she what she says.

  • Ask her what she wants. Just please, no mini-brides, that's creepy.

  • Having two flower girls is okay. She could maybe walk you down the aisle...

  • lol - liza wtf is a mini-bride???  i'm almost afraid to ask.  :)

op - my daughter will be 2 and she will be the flower girl.  i agree with pp that I would ask her first though if it interests her.

i'm also considering having my daughter walk me down the aisle, i don't know if you've considered that as well?

  • Flyjawn..I love love love the idea of your son walking you down the aisle!!!

I would say flower girl is perfect for her.  But ask her just in case.
