Hotel block info card in STD?

I'm getting ready to send our save the dates, and I'm wondering if it's okay to include the information card for our hotel block? It closes 6 weeks before the wedding and I'm worried guests won't be able to book a room if we wait until the invitation.

I do have the information on our website, also, but I doubt everyone will check that.

Re: Hotel block info card in STD?

  • That seems really early for a hotel block to close.  Is it too late to ask them to push the deadline back?

<div>Isn't it? I thought so, too, but I wasn't sure. They're firm on the deadline.</div>

<div>I think then it's okay to put hotel info in the STDs.</div><div>
</div><div>That definitely would have been a deal breaker for me on the hotel though.  I'm really surprised.  I just booked a hotel block for work and they wanted a 6 week deadline, and I told them I'd walk if they didn't move it closer.  We're at about a 3 week deadline now, which is still way far out for us and our attendees.</div>

  • This is something you can negotiate with a hotel. If you don't like it, go with a different one.
  • I think it's actually really common to do that. Go for it.
  • Since 95% of our guests are OOT we put our wedding website on the STD and have details about the hotel block on the website. We wanted to give everyone as long as possible to plan their travel and accommodations. Our hotel block closes 4 weeks before the wedding and I am surprised it is that close since we are getting married on Labor Day and hotel in Cocoa Beach normally sell out well in advance.

I agree that you should try to negotiate the block close date though. The hotel doesn't want to lose your business. If you do decide to walk and go to a different hotel, make sure no one has already booked a room so they don't get screwed by the hotel.

  • Our STD directed people to our website for accomodation information.  It's had almost 500 views, so people have definitely been back to it multiple times to get information.  If you have room on the STD, go ahead and put it if you want.

  • When I sent STD cards out I included info for my website that said hotel block info could be found there. That way they knew where to find it.. 6 weeks out seems really early to have the block go away but I think it depends on area and what else is going on there around the same time. Mine only holds until 1 month before the wedding.

  • Thanks, ladies! We have our website listed on the STD, but many of the guests that will be booking rooms do not really get on the computer. It'll just be easier for them if we include the card the hotel gave us, I think. I just wanted to make sure that wasn't completely tacky first.

I'll try calling the hotel again tomorrow and see if they'll change the deadline.
