How to do assigned tables?

Good morning!
I'm pretty sure I'm doing assigned tables at my wedding, but I'm trying to figure out how to actually do it. I'm putting name cards in the lobby, and hopefully they'll grab their name with their table, but once they get to their table, how do I ensure they get there? Do I put a list on the table of who's there? :S
Or do I just assume they're adults and they can probably figure it out? Thanks!! :)

  • you should assume they're adults :)
  • the seating card is all they need

  • Yeah, as long as you have the tables numbered and the placecards tell them which number is theirs... they should be able to figure it out. And if they can't, well then they probably have bigger problems. :)
  • Haha, Okay awesome! That's what I thought, but I just wanted to double check! :-)

I feel like the only person who is not a fan of assigned tables.  We didn't do it at our wedding because I wanted our guests to feel like they could sit anywhere they wanted.

We didn't do them either.  They just aren't very common in our area/circle at all.

When my brother got married they had assigned tables and I can remember feeling kind of weird about it.  Like I had to sit at this one table and that was the only table I was allowed to sit at!  LOL  They even had a guy standing at the door directing people to their tables.  He had a list and everything!  Too uppity for me.
  • I like assigned tables. I get stressed when I fly Southwest and don't have an assigned seat, though.

But OP, yeah, put their name and table number on the card, then put the numbers on the tables, and they'll be able to match them up.

  • I have a very large family and we are expecting between 200 and 250 guests... if we don't have assigned tables then I feel like it will be chaos because there will be too many tables to make up for tables not getting filled. I have been to many weddings and I never got the feeling that you have to stay at that one table. You are always free to go about the room it just provides a way to have everyone actually have a place to sit.
