Signing the venue contracts

Not sure if this is an etiquette question or not...but...

Who should sign the contracts?

The groom's father has offered to pay for most of the wedding, since I cannot.  Bless him!   But, he does not want to be involved in any of the "details" or planning.
Should the groom, and/or the bride, sign venue contracts?

Who's directly paying the venue?  If the groom's father is, he should sign the contract, since it's his money on the line.  If the FOG is planning on writing a check to the couple and is allowing them to do all the planning, then they should be on the contract.
