Book club?

Re: Book club?

  • Haha yeah Snippy and I both are into them, a little shamefully.

  • Ooh. And Unearthly by Cynthia Hand was great for a YA-paranormal book. It's also the first in a series but I really liked it.

  • Bree I just laughed :D That does sound a bit nutty.
  • BOOK CLUB OFF!

I rolled my eyes so many times while reading it.  Sooo many times.

  • Actually, wings sounds interesting. :/

In other news, I also want to start reading "One for the Money" but there is like 20 in the series. I know there is a movie coming out with it but there are just so many, I cannot imagine how it can still be good after so many books.

[QUOTE]Ghoti -- I read The Passage. It was great! I can't wait for the next book. It's supposed to be a trilogy.

I really enjoyed it too, I think it would make for an awesome discussion book, I remember I couldn't stop talking about it with FI LOL. It has vampires, but it's not like twilight or anything, it's actually really interesting ! (to me!)

I thought it sounded interesting too. But after reading it, I thought it was pretty poorly written, and like Twilight with faeries. And even though I am a Twilight fan, it had a "been done before" feel since, well, it had.

  • I'm going to have to hurry through my Harry Potter books!  I'm only on the second book, might have to break between them.
  • Yeah the concept of Wings is definitely out there, with fairies and trolls, but then again so is the concept of vampires.

Shannon I really like the series, and can't wait for the 4th book to come out.  H thinks I'm crazy when I told him what the books are about.

  • You may have to take a break from the book club because I could never take a break in between HP. They just get better and better.

Hah, that's what I'm afraid of!  I'm borrowing them from my mom though and it takes awhile to pass books between us.

If you make it to Prisoner of Azkaban, you won't want to take a break.

Ahh, maybe that is why then. To me it was all just redone-- sullen girl, love triangle with two good looking men who want to fight over the girl, paranormal, etc. I can see how you might enjoy it not having read the Twilight series.

  • Shannon - The Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich are fast, entertaining reads.  They definitely all sound the same by the 10th or 11th (I think that's as far as I ever got).

Bree - I read that years and years ago and recommended it to everyone I know as a hilarious albiet disgusting read.

  • I am going to Chicago this weekend so I'll have an 8 hour drive each way, hopefully I'll get through them quickly.
  • Bree I have! He's such an as$hole LOL! He wrote a second book, but it's not nearly as good as the first.
  • Bree I never read the book, but H has had me read articles or blogs from his site.  I sent him the movie while he was on deployment, and he actually just brought all the DVD's home with him yesterday that I sent him, including that one.  I'm sure I'll watch it at some point.

  • I also have Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter on my kindle but I could not finish it. It was so borrrring.

TR- Could it have been World War Z? That book is about after the zombies invade and people remembering it. It is written by the same guy as Zombie Survival Guide- which is a guide telling you how to survive the zombie apocalypse. My H likes them.
  • I'd definitely be interested in a book club. I do SBC the way Bay does: I pick out a few books to fit into their categories, but mostly I read what I want and then squish it into a category somehow.

I'm really interested in reading Bumped:

I know Pink has already read it, but I think a lot of us probably have not.

The movie was horrible, but I thought the book "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People" was funny.

I'd be down with reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Anna.  Another book on my to-read list was The Irresistable Henry House.
  • Bumped would be a GREAT discussion book!  Seriously.

I struggled to get through Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter too.  It was so painful I decided against trying to read Pride, Prejudice and Zombies.

I'd be into Bumped also. I like Megan McCafferty.
  • So, we should pick like 4 books and do a poll.

    Maybe..

    1) Sarah's Key

    2) Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

    3) ?

    4) ?

<div>I envy you, still having so much of the series left to read. Reading HP for the first time is magical. Enjoy! (And I'll second everyone else's comments - no way you'll be able to take a break!)</div><div>

Mel, that's one of the things I hate about book clubs -- when you don't toe the party line on one book, and everyone thinks you're either crazy or you didn't finish it.  Sometimes you just DON'T like a book.  And I don't think that anyone should feel guilty about that.
