Thank you cards to guests who did not bring a gift?

I haven't really spoken to anyone about the situation, but we had quite a few guest at our wedding that did not bring us a gift. I'm now starting to write out thank you cards, and am not sure if I am still supposed to send these guests a thank you? And if so, what would be the proper thing to write without sounding like a text book? I need some help on this matter. Thanks!

It's my understanding that guests have up to a year following a wedding to give the couple a gift. I have received two since my May 2009 wedding. I would hold off a bit on sending TYs to guests who did not give you a gift. Some may send them later on, and some may not send one at all. If you'd like, you can send a TY to them for coming and sharing the day with you, but that's up to you.

I love your appropriate use of the word literally.

  • I literally cringe when people overuse or misuse the word literally.

  • Any grammar girl fans out there?  She talks about grammar pet peeves all the time!  It's a free podcast and each one is only a few minutes long.  Check her out.

  • yes, just thank them for attending and celebrating with you!
  • oh, and maybe save writing those thank yous last just in case they were late on getting you gifts or something. if you do send notes out and then later get gifts from then, then you just send another thank you for the gift.
  • Glad to hear it LBride!
