Roll Call...Who's here? What's everyone up to?

Re: Roll Call...Who's here? What's everyone up to?

  • I am now looking for homemade mayonnaise recipes.

They sell Hellmans down here (at $11.00 a jar) and the other brands here...just won't work.  Cane Sugar is NOT the second ingredient in mayo :-(

aMrsin - not that I've every made homemade mayo, but I've always had good success with recipes at allrecipes.com.

eta - always read the comments.   They always have good suggestions.

  • We'd proabably be able to find you quickly. We'd following all of the YELLING! Laughing

  • I'm not a regular at any bars here in VA, but I used to be at a few in Charleston. Man I miss that town.

  • There's nothing really close to us.  Now if they had put a bar in down the street instead of a playground, I'd be all over that.

    Me too.

think it' come down to, do I bother searching, or just go unpack the Julia Child cookbooks?

Oh and on that note, I guess I should start unpacking my household that I had shipped over from the states?  So far only my clothes and sheets are unpacked.

  • aMrs -- do you use an immersion blender or do it by hand?

I use a whole egg, a splash of regular vinegar, a squirt of Dijon, some sea salt and white pepper.  Then I add half olive oil and half Canola (1/2 cup each) over everything in the immersion blender whipping container, whip everything until creamy.  Sometimes I add a little lemon juice to it too.

Just got home.  Berkeley was super affectionate, sort of like she knew that I was getting upset about the lack of love a certain drama-prone person has towards her rescue dog.
  • I'm pretty sure my bar stool at my old bar still has by butt print in it.

  • I've always had a "regular" bar. When I was in Indy, it was the Beer Sellar. When I'm here it's the clubhouse or O'Leary's.

sometimes, you just need a place to go where everybody knows your name.

And they give you their drink screw ups.

And charge you less for you drinks because you tip well.

    That's love right there.

I've never done this before.  I am used to just going to buy a jar of Hellmans.  H actually heard me SQUEE in public when I saw it on the shelves here.  But at those prices it's only a treat, so homemade from now on.

  • After reading through that whole m&r thread and the previous one that was all about the dog, it warms my heart that so many here are dog/animal lovers. My puppy got a bacterial infection so we took her to the vet today and got her meds. Reading all that after a whole afternoon focused on my dog made me all upset! I'm stuck at FILs house for the night because the vet we go to is near their house (an hour away from the cities... It's about 3 times cheaper than city vets) and we are too lazy to drive back. The knot on my iPhone is weird.

  • Yeah, there are a lot of animal lovers here.

  • Darn you all.  I am working tomorrow and Friday morning.

aMrs, you could use just canola oil if you want the mayo to taste more like Hellman's.  I add the olive oil for health.
  • Is it bad that I'm hoping for a snowstorm on saturday so that we don't have to go see H's family?
    Photobucket
  • I'm shutting off my alarm indefinitely at this point. I don't see the need for one for at least 2 to three week.

Except to get me to the airport. I'll set an alarm that day.

  • When do you leave fishers?
So I'm FB stalkin right now.  A guy I dated in college is dressed like the Mad Hatter at his wedding.  Dodged a bullet there...

  • I don't have a regular bar, but I was thrilled when the girl at the Mexican restaurant knew my name.  I've been going there once a week for the last 6 months.  It took them long enough.  :)  I used to have a regular sushi bar.  The head sushi chef got me a bottle of sake for New Years one year.  I feel like now that we're married, we don't go out as much, so I don't have a regular anything anymore other than lunch places.
  • Hahaha I got a good laugh about the image of a mad Hatter up at the altar. A big Lewis Carroll fan?

  • For TO? I leave New Years Eve morning at 5 am!

To go home for the holidays? Tomorrow at noon. I'm celebrating my christmas break right now with a pomegranate martini that is surprisingly delightful.

And no. It's ok to hope for a snow storm. How far away are they?

  • I have off today and tomorrow and work the 25th and 26th.

Mica, I'm willing to bet that I am Hellman's marketing department dream customer.  It's sold here under a different brand name (Best Foods) but I saw that little bow and and the tag line "bring out the best" and I knew it was all good again in sandwhich world.

  • Why would one do that? Dress up as a mad hatter, I mean?
