Hey fellow brides to be!
I had the best wedding dress shopping experience and wanted to share because I did not find this option anywhere in my search for shopping options. As a low key person with a fall 2010 wedding in maine, I was overwhelmed with the Kleinfield's experience. While fun, I found the experience overwhelming and the potential dresses expensive. I live in the East Village, and went to a couple small boutiques in the neighborhood. One Angelo Lambrou, was very cute. A lot of the dresses can be customized for your body and taste, and the selection has a lot of untraditional cool designs (http://nymag.com/listings/stores/angelo_lambrou/)
. The best find for me though was stumbling into the small shop of Selia Yang. She has her sample dresses which she sells in her East Village store, along with other clothing she designs. The dresses are elegant, yet a bit different. I found my dress! The second I put it on, I knew it was the one! Only problem was the sample was too small. No problem, said the women working there, they had my size at their loft in Tribeca. I made an appointment for the next day, and when I got there I was greeted by the same person as the day before, turns out it is the designer, Selia Yang, herself! She had the dress all ready for me to try on! A one on one appointment with a designer, that started with trying on samples, unheard of! It was such a special experience. And I got the perfect dress within budget! What more can a bride to be ask for!
If you are low key, and want a more personalized experience, I highly suggest checking out the local boutiques, and especially Selia Yang! I never thought in a million years I would get my dress from the desiger herself! Her website is (http://www.seliayang.com)
Good luck on your search!
