  • There's also a poll about this over in reception ideas...
  • How is it I never clicked on that thread before?
  • Potlucks seem to be coming up a lot lately.  I could have sworn that I read somewhere in a book that they were okay.  I personally don't think so.  Like others said, the food safety is a serous concern.  I went to a potluck about a year ago and everyone brought a dish.  I got really sick.  When I thought about it, I realized that others were not following basic food safety rules (keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold), which was probably the cause of it.
  • Not to mention if it was a potluck, you know all that would be there is fried chicken and potato salad.

  • Screw a potluck, the real money savings is when you put BYOB on your invitations.

  • That thread is fun. I love when all the crazies pop up out of the woodwork to support each other.

  • My mom REALLY wanted us to do a potluck wedding in my aunts back yard when we first announced we got engaged. According to her, all of our family members could bring a dish and it was no big deal.
  • Oh holy night.

And lpstl, that was my first thought on reading potluck thread -- the idea seems less like a "potluck" and more like a "BYOFood."  I can only speak for myself (and maybe a potluck is considered acceptable in certain areas) but I would be fairly shocked to receive an invitation that also asked guests to supply their favorite dish for the reception.  IMHO, they who host, feed.
  • The voice of reason does not seem to be getting through to them.  Nor does the fact that receptions are FOR the guests.
    Ridiculous.

  • Oh dear, I just read the thread. It was like a WW flashback with the token reasoning of, "It's YOUR DAY, do WHATEVER YOU WANT." Guest discomfort/inconveniencing be damned!

  • I consider myself a newbie, only 20 NYE and not planning on being engaged for awhile. yet even i think a potluck wedding is unnaceptable.

PS. Beatlesgirl25-- the "Taco cat is a palindrome" amuses me endlessly.

Being young and/or not engaged doesn't make you a newb.  There are a few regs on here that aren't engaged.  It's the entitlement and whiny, validate me attitude that makes you a newb.  Congrats for not being one!
