Couples Shower

My FSIL is throwing a bridal shower for me. My BMs want to throw one also, as well as a b-party. I'm totally okay with the b-party, but I suggested maybe a couples shower instead of another bridal shower and they love the idea. I have heard of couples showers, but I've never been to one. Have you ever been to one? What exactly goes on at a couples shower?

Re: Couples Shower

  • We lobbied for a couples shower, but both my step mom and MIL shot us down.

The ones I've been to were picnics. Catered picnic foods, cake, BOOZE. Then after a while they sat down to open presents together. No silly games. Door prizes were gift cards and were given by setting a timer to go off during gift unwrapping. Even my younger brothers (20, 14, 10 y.o.) came and had a good time. They were more like family reunions with some friends thrown in.

For one of my current BMs, we (bridesmaids) threw a couples shower (their request).  They didn't want any games or anything, so it was really just a BBQ/party.  While I had fun at the party, I'd caution that someone should figure out how much it will cost and make sure each BM is okay with the cost before you start...but that's not different from the normal advice.

For this particular party, being a couples shower meant that the guest list was much larger than it would have been for a regular bridal shower, and the guys made demands (like a certain kind of beer) that made our cost very high.  The BMs each spent at least $250 on the party, and then the groom's sister made a speech and thanked the entire wedding party for the shower, when the GMs hadn't done or paid for anything.  I was just frustrated because I was starting grad school shortly after the wedding, and was trying to save as much as possible since I wouldn't be working.

Sorry, rant over.  Just pointing out that the cost of a couples shower can be much more than that of a regular bridal shower, so that's something to be cognizant of.

The bridesmaids and groomsment threw the couples shower, termed a "jack and jill', NOT a Stag and Doe which implies cash raising.

Other showers were given by the bride's relatives and the grooms relatives

it was a BBQ near the beach. Games were bocce, softball, etc.
  • I talked to my sister (MOH). It sounds like they are going to do a martini theme couples shower and reserve a space at a local restaurant that can fit around 30 people. Sounds good to me! Thanks for your suggestions ladies.
