Medical "Why" Question

I'm wondering why a simple cold always turns into a major sinus infection for me.  Something that would be a minor inconvenience for someone else turns into a full blown pain and snot fest for me for a couple of weeks.

Ideas?

No ideas, but let me know if you figure it out since I go through the exact same thing. Just had a doc appointment on Friday for yet another antiobiotic -- for a sinus infection that came from a cold.

Nope, no tonsils.  They were removed when I was 4 because of chronic ear infections.

Damn.  A tonsilectomy was my sinus infection solution.  Have you seen an ENT doctor about them?  I have a friend who had a weirdly shaped sinus that gave her sinus infections and migraines.

No, I haven't.  I'm not a fan of the medical care here.  Looking forward to the doctors in Sweden! Woot!

Until Sweden: Hydrate as much as possible with clear liquids.  Never suck snot into your nose, always blow.  Take sudafed (the behind the counter stuff they make meth with).

I'm pretty aggressive about treating cold symptoms...if I obsessively take decongestants as soon as I start getting snotty then I won't get a sinus infection or (worse) have the cold settle in my chest. Even though I really don't like the way decongestants make me feel, 3-4 days medicated is better than several weeks of illness.

You know, it's definitely gotten worse and more frequent once we moved here, and I think it's because the air quality is sooo bad.  Like, if I take a walk, come home, blow my nose- it's black from the dirt and the deisel.  Ugh.

Mine won't go away without an antibiotic. Ever. It just gets worse and worse.

Usually one round of antibiotics will do it if I act fast enough, but if I wait too long sometimes it takes two.

I don't have access to Sudafed here. :(  I haven't found a good Italian brand that I think does well.  They seem to like things that you drop in water and let it fizz out, like alka- seltzer.  My stash of US cold meds is gone too. :(

I can't answer your question, but I do sympathise. There was awhile there where I got sinus infections every time I got a cold... I'm not sure what changed to clear that up for me, actually, so I'm afraid I'm no help!
