Registry According to Yahoo..... but not Etiquette

I found an interesting article on Yahoo today.  I opened it thinking I'd see some registry suggestions I may have forgotten when we set up our registry last week.  The first 6 or 7 were pretty standard recommendations.  After that it gets iffy, and then just gets plain bad.  That last three suggestions are "Honeymoon", "Wedding Costs", and "Charitable Causes".  I think the "Wedding Costs" one is the worst.  That's basically asking your guests to pay to come to your wedding.  There's so much that could go wrong with that one.  I'm curious to see y'all's reactions to the article.

  • I think this is the worst part.

"Guests don't have to get you these -- so you don't have to worry about anyone being offended..."

    Shudder.
  • I saw that article this morning too! Aside from the horrible ending suggestions, I didn't think the article provided a whole lot of information anyway.
  • I read it and thought it was a ridiculous article.  Yahoo is so full of crap these days.

I agree.  There wasn't anything listed that I know I hadn't already thought of.  The statistics bugged me a little too.  Just because someone didn't register for something doesn't mean they forgot it.  We didn't register for a vacuum because we already have a Dyson.

I saw that as well.......one of my BM's sent it to me. The first few were good ideas, because some of them I wouldn't think of, but yes the last 3 were just bad.

[QUOTE]Anyone who registers for "Wedding Costs" can expect a white elephant from me. Literally. I will buy the ugliest white elephant statue or lamp I can find in an instance like this, even though we almost always give cash.

My MOH sent me that article yesterday - I was like, yeah... I've thought out 7/10 of the things.  And the three I didn't think of were tacky.

That article is so illogical. It's the asking part that's offensive.

I too saw this article when looking for registry ideas I may have missed and shuttered. Ironically yesterday FI and I received a wedding invitation in the mail that not only had registries listed with it (cringe) but one of them happened to be a website devoted to helping the couple put money toward their wedding costs. We checked out the website and it actually listed out what the couple are spending for every individual piece of their wedding from the venue to the chair cover costs. I was in utter shock that they genuinely thought this was a good idea. Of all people FI and I understand how expensive throwing a wedding can be, but stating how much you're spending to the penny on things and basically saying "hey give us money for it"? Tacky tacky tacky.
