Place cards per person?

We're found some things online andin books that said each person should get a separate place cards... really?

Are you really supposed to split couples, or did the sites probably not mean it literally? I swear in the past I remember my parents getting "Mr and Mrs" ones. I realize kids probably get their own, but that's it, right? What did/would you do?

Re: Place cards per person?

  • I think its really just whatever you prefer?  I've seen it done both ways.

"Whatever East. You're just mad I RSVP'd "lame" to your pre-wedding sleepover."
  • You can do either, but one card for a couple would save you space. We had individual cards because the favors were attached to each card, so everyone needed their own.

  • We did place cards for each person.  I don't think it's necessary and I'm not sure why we did, but we did.

  • If you're doing placecards -- the cards that go on the actual dining table -- they need to be one a person because they indicate an actual seat.

If you're doing escort cards -- the kind that people pick up from a table at the front that tells them which table they're seated at -- they're usually per couple but can be per person if you want.

  • Oh, and another reason we had individual escort cards is because they doubled as placecards with the person's entree choice color coded on the back. So if you're doing that, then you'll need individual cards too.

  • Thanks, yes, I do really mean 'escort cards' I guess - they'll go on a table at the front.. Until I started searching on this topic I had never heard that term.

And our location takes orders tableside, so there's no need to color code by entree. I'd probably rather do one per couple, but we'll talk about it - it's good to know we have the option. Thanks for the feedback!
  • we're doing one per person if we know the guest's name. if not then it's mr. jones and guest"
