Follow up to "Room Blocks"

I posted a few days ago with questions on room blocks. I had no where to even start and didn't know what questions to ask when I called. THANK YOU all so much for your responses. I did some research yesterday and came across a website that does it all for you..

www.groups.hotels.com

You input the location where you are looking for rooms, dates and any notes about your event and they request bids from all hotels in the area. It made my life so much easier. It found hotels I didn't even know existed by me. Once you find a rate you like you can email the hotel manager directly and confirm everything with them.

I hope this helps anyone else thats looking for room blocks!

Re: Follow up to "Room Blocks"

  • Eh. I did that and found it pretty useless. Almost all of the hotels required 85% of rooms to book OR the discount wasn't good at all.

I know it takes time, but I just made a list of six hotels within x miles of the venue and called them about it. I got great deals at two hotels and don't have to fill any of the rooms.

  • I agree, room blocks are a great idea, but hard to manage, and it's over and above what you really need to do as a bride or groom.  I just put a "Travel FAQ" section on our wedding website that explained what areas of town would be cheapest or easiest to travel in and out of, told everyone that one particular hotel close to the venue had rooms available, and offered to help people make hotel arrangements if they needed it.  That should be enough.
