Does anyone else think this is odd?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_theticket/20101122/pl_yblog_theticket/florida-lawmaker-calls-house-ban-on-hats-sexist

So you're elected into the congress, and your first big political move is going to be to get the House Leader to repeal the ban on hats in the House?

Edited: This is a P&R. Gotta head home. Feel free to discuss!

  • I love how she says the law "dates back to when men wore hats" like men don't wear hats anymore in this futuristic society we're living in.

  • 300 hats? Really? There are more important things out there besides hats.
  • How is that a priority?

I'm so unclear on how it's sexist, though. Does it specifically say that men can wear hats and women can't?

  • i'd go with an interesting move. prob not the first one i'd make but then again i am not "smart" enough to part of congress :)
  • I don't understand how it's sexist.

I guess because the hat ban is fairly applied. *eyeroll* Usually, in church or private homes, men have to remove hats indoors, but women do not. I guess she sees this as "sexist" because it's telling women they can't wear hats indoors. Okaaaay crazt lady.

PS, the one that makes my blood boil is that the teaparty candidates who won want to eliminate citizenship for children born in the US who do not have parents who are citizens. Yeah, that pesky fourteenth amendment! Always getting in the way! I guess anchor babies are the number one problem in the US. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-undecided.gif" border="0" alt="Undecided" title="Undecided" />

Those of us who make hats for a living find this pretty exciting, actually.
  • This is ridiculous. I really don't think the people who elected her thought this would be her first priority and they're probably not very happy about it.  And she probably shouldn't be causing a big scene as a freshman member of congress. She's not really starting off on the right foot.

  • If these are the priorities of incoming congressman/woman...then we have much to fear.
