Picutres...

Ok so not etiquette related but you guys are my fave board and give great tid bits.

I got our pictures back from the photographer. I paid an extra 1k to OWN the rights (he can use them for advertising and competition and I can have the high resolution files and make as many as I want, post, etc). So, as I am going through all 786 of them I can't hep but notice there are several shots missing.

yes, 786 is a lot. Or so I thought...until I compared with all my girlfriends that got married. They each had 1500 plus photos. Not that I am THAT obsessed with going through that many photos but I feel like there are quite a few missing shots.

We rented a red convertible mustang and exited in it in style...no picture. We have 2...count only 2 pictures of us full length formal. The others are artistic. Amazing yes, but formal no. One of my BMs even asked where certain pictures are that she knows he took...but are not there.

So, do I mention my concerns to the photographer? And a side note...his office assistant is quite snarky and is not pleasant to work with at all.

Re: Picutres...

  • our photographer said if they looked like absolute poop she wouldn't include them (not in those words) so it is possible that some shots just were not up to their standard.

Every photog is different. Your friends who have 2934058239068374 pictures probably have received the majority of shots taken by their photogs- good, bad and ugly.

Other photogs care more about the quality of their work and supply only the pictures which they're happy to have floating around representing their work. Did your contract specify a number of shots? If not, then it's well within your photog's rights to supply you the pictures they're happy with and those alone. That said, I don't think there's any harm in asking if they have a copy of a couple of pictures that you thought they'd taken but couldn't find in there.

As an aside, my photog supplied us with just over 400 pictures, which was more than specified in our contract. I've got friends who received thousands of shots from their photographers, but honestly (and just to completely lack modesty) the quality is worth far more than quantity, and ours were perfect IMHO. Did I get every shot that I would like? Probably not, but I'd rather have a smaller amount of amazing pictures than a huge amount of mundane shots.

  • Thesun- that is what I figured they did...just left out the crappy ones. But, there are plenty of crappy ones that were included and I am missing some pretty important ones...you kow, like more than TWO formals of me and DH.

I figure it won't hurt to ask. I will let them know how much difficulty I am having with picking our portraits (they gave us $400 photo credit for a mistake they made with our engagement photos) and see if they have any additional.
  • I think that's a good amount of photos. We ended up with about double that, but we had two people shooting, so I think there's a difference. I also agree about quality and not quantity. And it depends how long everything was, more time = more shots, etc.

What I would raise an eyebrow at even more than the number of shots is that the 1k charge for a hi-res disc. I know every photog is different, but I know most photogs around here include a hi-rest disc within your package. Or was that your package price, 1k? Or did you pay an additional 1k for the disc?

  • We had 3 photographers. The original package was for 4 hours and one assistant. He messed up the engagement shots (freak occurrence) and gave us all day coverage, replacement photos from the wedding and additional photographer to make up for it. We paid an additional 1K for the rights. Total for the time and rights was 2400.

I am thinking 3 photographers and 1pm-11pm and it doesn't add up. There should be more. I just want to pick through them myself. It is not like I would misrepresent them with a horrible picture. I want the good, bad AND ugly to decide on my own. There has to be more...

Um, wow... okay, yeah I think there should definitely be more then.

  • That is what I was thinking! I don't want to sound demanding BUT I think it would be my job to pick the ones I like the most. why would they be hold out on me? And there is no limit of pictures listed in the contract. It only states "add on-high res cd"

Oh, I did not rent a mustang convertible to NOT have a picture of us sitting on the top of the backseat waving goodbye. He even knew how stressed I was over it since Avis made me wait an HOUR for the damn thing and I was late meeting him at the salon. Heh.
