I have dress envy

Our best couple friends are getting married in July.  We like to joke that they want to pay as much as possible for everything, whether it is a house, vet, knick knacks from kids on the beach in Mexico or wedding related.

So of course she is getting the most beautiful Melissa Sweet dress.  I was obsessed with Melissa Sweet, but couldn't justify it so I bought my off the rack BCBG dress for less than $300.

I have dress envy!!  I wish I would have tried on more dresses.  I am regretting it now.  I never even tried on the one I coveted.  I did try on a Vera Wang that was beautiful but I ended up buying off the rack at the mall on the first day of shopping.  I love my dress and my decision worked for me but I just wished I had tried on more just for fun.

I just have to keep telling myself that for slightly more than her dress we had a 2 week honeymoon in Spain.

  • I understand.  I shopped and tried on one day, one store, 4 dresses.  *shrug*
  • I never even tried any on.  I got mine off of eBay.

  • Which gown is it?

Btw, I think your dress is gorgeous! Honestly, I tried on way too many dresses, and they all started to blur together. I wish I'd found my dress on the first day!
  • I have dress envy when I see Stina's siggy pic.

I loved my dress, but after the alterations I lost some weight and didn't have time to get it fixed. It looked frumpy in some pictures and it made me sad. So, in some way I know how you feel.
  • Awww. You both looked amazing in your dresses, so try not to envy so much!

The only time I really had any envy was when Moose posted hers.  Thankfully I didn't have time to change my mind and go try it on.

  • I have tons of envy, all of the time. I don't think there is simple "one" dress. I think there is a lot out there that I would have died to have...but $ prevented me.

You should go out and try on dresses one day....you have no need to worry about becoming a 2 dress bride now!

  • Thanks...I do love mine for what I spent.  This is the dress I coveted:

    Melissa Sweet Fern

Let me look for the one my friend got....

  • My friend got the Melissa Sweet Mila.

The good news is she wants Melissa Sweet bridesmaids dresses so I will be able to wear one at her wedding:)  Although it was more than I would want to spend but oh well.  I don't know which one she has chosen yet...we have to go look.

  • I saw tons of listings for used "Fern" dresses when I was searching for my MS dress. It amazed me how much they were, even used. It sure is beautiful, though!
  • Poli...I somehow missed your final dress choice!  I love it!!  It is so perfect for you.  Ahhhh....more dress envy!

  • I can see how you would have missed it, since I "decided" on my dress about 75 times :P ha.

I'm sorry I promoted more sad :( If it makes you feel better, I won't be keeping it. There's no way I can justify spending that much on something I'll wear once without recouping some of the cost. I've seen it sell fast on all the used websites, so it's straight to the internet after the honeymoon. It makes me sad, but I want it to be worn again and again.

    Sorry for the threadjack!
  • Oh man, I haven't even started dress shopping yet but that MS Fern dress is one of the ones I have bookmarked! It's so pretty...maybe I can find something similar but less expensive.

  • Rach, I have total dress envy of your dress.  And some regret towards my own.  I wish I'd picked one that was a little more forgiving.

  • And Brie, I have envy of yours!! (we can trade post wedding, and play dress-up).
I keep wondering if I'll look back a few years from now and regret not going more "traditional" with my dress...like more "white" ...and stuff.

This was my dream dress...I'll never forgive myself for not trying it on...

  • Polichik, your dress suits you so beautifully!  And YES you can totally pull off that veil - your hairstyle, facial shape, and dress type are exactly what that veil calls for.  Just lovely!
  • That's gorgeous, Rach.  It looks a lot like your dress, actually!

  • I'm a horrible horrible person and I wanted

    this dress http://www.brides.com/fashion/dresses/gallery/wedding_dresses/vendor/detail/188768?f=92%3a94&offset=6

    or this dress http://www.aisledash.com/2008/07/01/dress-of-the-day-style-9188-by-st-pucchi-couture/

I really really really wanted the ST Pucchi one but never tried it on because everyone said I was too little to pull it off... truth be told I'm 4'10" so they were probably right. and I do love my dress...but still. Ugh to have an unlimited budget!
