[QUOTE]Psst, Bubba - it's Emily. No big deal, but I think I've seen you call me Emile before, so I thought I'd mention it :)

hah that's funny, I read Emile and I thought, "oh that's weird, I thought it was Emily. It's cool that her name is Emile and she's in Chile" and now I feel dumb because it really is Emily :P

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: So on the topic of small ceremony/large reception... : Somebody sure thinks we care more about them than we do!  This topic comes up a lot on this board... this post was not about you, FYI.  But you're out, so whatever.  Good luck with life.

Haha clearly she wasn't a lurker before posting.  And I'm also assuming she's the one who posted about ceremony for 80 and guest list of 150.  I wasn't necessarily calling her out, those were just the most recent numbers I remembered hearing.

  • When I think "small ceremony, big reception" I always think about an episode of one of the crap wedding shows that I watch.  I don't remember which it was because it was at least a year ago.  The bride was dead set on only having her and her FI there for the vows.  FI didn't like the idea, and neither did his family, so she "compromised" by letting his family watch from like 150 feet away, on a hill.  There was this close up of his mother sobbing because she couldn't hear their vows or see them through the trees.  I don't care what bride's reasoning was, that was shiity.

So, this thread sort of turned me around.  I read the "why I did it" posts and was like "Oh, okay.  Well that's entirely reasonable."  Well, except for Lkientz, because, frankly, when you take your ball and run home, I forget everything you just said.

I stared at this for at least 2 minutes trying to figure out if I was being invited to play, or taunted.  In the end, I've decided that you long to play four square with me.  It seems like that's probably what you're saying.

I don't get married often, but when I do, I do it in Las Vegas.

  • While I'm not in favor of small ceremony, large reception, I have to say that I definitely don't perceive people who do this as gift grabbers given that the cost of the reception usually far outweights the value of the gifts received (who expects to recuop the $$ via gifts)?

  • In my area, the reason people have a small ceremony is because they feed only the people that go to the ceremony, and have a big "open house party" the hour after dinner which everybody is invited to.  I've been to AT LEAST 5 like this.

Will my wedding be like this? Absolutely not.  The people invited to the wedding are also invited to the reception, where they will all be fed and boozed.
