Rehersal dinner invites?

I was going to mail out rehersal dinner invitations but my wedding party is fairly small. Is that common or should I just tell everyone?

Re: Rehersal dinner invites?

  • It's up to you really.  I've been in weddings where we were just told where to be and when, and I've been in weddings where I've received an invitation.  However you want to do it is fine.

  • which way was the easiest for you?
  • I asked this last week. Everyone basically said that if the RD is formal, you can send an invite, if it's casual, just spread it by word of mouth, email, text etc.

  • I'm disgustingly excited about paper products, cards and invitations, so I really wanted to do invites.  I agree with everyone else though - do what you want :)

  • Traditionally, the groom's familly hosts the RD, and here in the South, the groom's family is insistent on doing all that is involved with the RD.

The groom's parents take off work for two days, fly to the wedding location, spend a long weekend doing RD venue visits and tastings, then decide on the RD venue and work out the contract details such as colors, menu, etc.  And the groom's parents decide how the guests will be invited to the event they are hosting.

One of my good friends didn't "get" this, and she sent her FMIL several samples of RD invitations that she'd created on her computer.  The FMIL sent back a snappy e-mail about how SHE has hosted several dinner parties in her life, and certainly SHE can handle hosting THIS dinner party, including the INVITATIONS.

You don't want to jump in and stick fingers into something that is the only event that the groom's family will host in the entire weekend of wedding activities...
  •  I think you can do either. I agree with the post about the formality of it. I personally am leaving it up to my FIL's since they are paying for and organizing it all. I have too many other things to worry about right now than the RD.
