see any movies lately?

put your good or bad movie reviews here.

by the way, don't waste your time with Devil. I saw it on Sunday, and my friends are still mad at me for picking it.

Re: see any movies lately?

• I saw Away We Go a little while ago, and I loved it.

I also saw Remember Me (The RPatz one) and...yeah. I liked that one, too.

• I saw Scott Pilgrim with FI and some friends a few weeks ago.  It was okay.  I definitely think you have to be a fan of video games to get the references.  And also give up any idea that the movie takes place in any sort of "real life" mode.  Other than that, I thought it was entertaining.  Don't know if I'd watch it again, though.

• Haven't seen any great ones recently, but I heard good things about "The Town".

And I really want to see "Easy A". I think Emma Stone is hysterical
• I saw The Town and I really liked it. I read the book and thought it was great so I was excited to see the movie. The movie is different from book as are most movies but it was still surprisingly good.
H and I also really liked Easy A.  We also saw "the Other Guys" recently (with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlburg) and we both liked that one as well.

We saw "The Other Guys" a month ago.  It was surprisingly funny.  I loved Eva Mendes in it.

That is exactly how I felt during the pool scene. GROSS! (yes the caps was needed)
• I really enjoyed The Town. Good plot and action, and not bad acting.
Also saw The American a few weeks ago. FI liked it, but there is not nearly as much action as I would have thought.  That was a let down.
Anniversary
• I went and saw Going the Distance yesterday, (the one with Justin Long and Drew Barrymore) and I wasn't expecting much, and I ended up really liking it.
• Oh, and I saw The Other Guys and hated it, but I'm not sure why. I know that I'm alone in this.
• I saw Machete and it rocked my face. <3 Robert Rodriguez.

I'm sure I'll agree once I see it.
• I saw the Town and liked it enough but there was so much hype comparing it to the Departed and I didn't think it was as good as the Departed.  I was also bummed because most heist flicks have some big twist (like Ocean's 11) and they're usually really smart and the Town just kind of laid out what happened and then it played out.

Also - loved Piranha 3D.  Funniest movie of the year!  We went to see it knowing it would be terrible, but it was seriously awesome.  So many of the gory scenes are just  outrageous, so it's pretty entertaining.

Jess - I think the trick was to go in with really low expectations.

Also, I want to see "Going the Distance", since we did the LDR thing for almost 2 years.
We just watched Killers with Katherine Heigel and Ashton Kutcher. It was cute. Not great acting, and kind of predictable, but just a cute, funny movie.
Posted by Jill9288
Ditto this.  Entertaining and worth the $5 for on demand.
• We watched Killers this past weekend too and it was cute. Funny and light but totally predictable. Though I love Ashton so it all made up for it.

Also watched the Last Song um... last weekend? Weekend before that? And I bawled. It was actually pretty damn good.

And the Ghost Writer with Pierce Brosnan and Ewan McGregor. I loved it.
image
• OMG, The Last Song---I wanted to watch it only because it had Greg Kinnear, so I figured if he was committing to it, it'd be decent.

However, after watching it, I felt like it was a hybrid copycat of Life As a House + Fly Away Home. I was heavily disappointed and highly distracted by Miley's snaggle-tooth.
• Oh, I forgot it was good and bad.

Bad (again, I'm behind bc we don't go to the theater):  Cop Out, 28 Days Later, Children of Men, Taking Lives

You didn't like 28 Days Later? I loved that movie!

But I will confess that my exposure to zombie movies has been somewhat minimal and I have little to compare it to.
• We just saw:

The Other Guys-loved it, laughed the entire time.

Killers-cute movie, nothing spectacular. Ashton looks great in it.

Prince of Persia--pretty much all I did was stare at Jake G. and all his hotness. It didn't even bother me that the Persians had british-sounding accents.

Date Night--thought I would hate it, but it was great.

Pandorum-I was expecting gross and unnecessary gore, but we actually loved it. It was surprisingly awesome, and now I'm super bummed that they aren't continuing with the trilogy.

Yeah. I think I liked it. Not sure. I went with a friend who LOVED it and FI who was excited about it but thought it was meh. I've read that there's a big divide - it really appeals and makes sense to those under 30, but those over 30 don't really like it. Except one of my friends, who's 43 and adored it. But he's a special case.

I don't have a problem suspending disbelief, so that part was fine, but I'm not sure I'll see it again. It was pretty funny, though.

I found it to be pretty boring.  It was a lot of walking around and sitting around.  Not so much zombie fighting.  I don't have a ton of zombie movie exposure, either.  I really liked I Am Legend.

I like Children of Men, but Taking Lives is perhaps one of the worst, most boring and most predictable movies I've ever seen.

I really want to see Easy A and Catfish. I heard good reviews of both. From my friend who liked Scott Pilgrim.

• I didn't care much for I Am Legend, probably because I love the campiness of Omega Man.

I think the best newer zombie movie is the Dawn of the Dead remake. And of course, all of the Resident Evil movies.

• I'm waiting for a full-length version of Don't.

never heard of it.
• It was one of the fake trailers from Grindhouse, like Machete was. Apparently, in Canada, they showed trailers for Hobo with a Shotgun, but I don't remember seeing it. They're making that into a full length film as well.
image
• Saw Machete, it was 'different'. Lots of killing, I hate Jessica Alba's acting, the actor Danny Trejo does a good job in looking mean but that's just how he looks in real life anyways. This I would recommend to a guy who likes lots of killings, heads being chopped off and wants to see Lindsay Lohan's boobs, definitely not to waste $9 at theatre over.
