I think this is tacky, WDYT?

Youtube video of a bride and groom who busted out a guitar and sang a duet after the toasts at their reception.  Maybe it would have been cute if they were better singers?

  • sing with me sing for the year
sing for the laughter sing for the tears
  • I don't think it's tacky.  A bit painful, perhaps, because they're not the best singers, but not tacky.  Their guests seemed to enjoy it.
  • I'm not sure you know what tacky means.

  • I wouldn't say tacky... more awkward than anything. If I was at that wedding I would have been cringing the entire time.

Well it seems very AWish and self-indulgent then.  I would not like this as a guest.

  • Tacky's the wrong word. Goofy maybe?

Most weddings I go to, I care about the B&G enough I'd probably just smile indulgently at something like this.

Kind of like the extended, awkward, embarrassing toast my dad did. Whatever. Most of the people there cared about us enough they were willing to overlook it and appreciate the underlying sentiment (he's my dad, he loves me, he's happy I'm getting married).

Weddings in general can be regarded as AW-ish.

I just think it was awkward. I would be kind of embarrassed for them, actually.

  • You know, we always say that weddings should reflect the couple and their interests.  If that's something they wanted to do, then why not?  Even if they are bad at it.  Dear god, half the people doing toasts completely suck at public speaking.  THAT is awkward.

  • I like when people don't take themselves too seriously. The guests seemed to enjoy it. The bride looked slightly embarrased, and definitely humble enough.

  • Not tacky, but this would be me:

But then again, I tend to be somewhat judgemental when people are 'performing'

Who the eff said they had great voices? Idiot.
  • Is this any more attention whore-ish than when people have an elaborate, choreographed first dance?

  • I haven't watched the video (can't at work) but I wouldn't mind. I sort of like goofy sweet things, and I would imagine it was in character for them.

  • I don't think so. They made a solid effort.

FI and I are planning on singing and playing guitar/drums at our reception. Not sure what song yet though. He's a professional musician and I'm not terrible so I think it will be good.
  • My fiance and I have actually had a few guest tell us we should sing something together. We both do sing professionally, and love to sing together. But it does feel a little embarrassing, or attention whore-ish? We havnt decided to do so or not yet.... We are planning on doing a dance though, we're copying 'Evolution of Dance', I feel the first dance should be entertaining and get everyone up on there feet! :)

  • Not tacky. Awkward. I'd be embarrassed for them and probably cover my face with my hands and peek through my fingers until they were done sining. But hey it's their wedding right?

  • Ugh.  More than anything I would just be annoyed they did that to Ingrid Michaelson.
