Have you ever been to...

San Francisco?

I'm going there Tuesday - Saturday for work.  I'll have most of the day free Tuesday, evenings free Wed-Fri, and the morning free Saturday.

Any touristy activities that are "can't miss" ?  Any tasty restaurants you've been to?

I've been checking a few things out but welcome any suggestions!

  • I love San Francisco! We want to move there.

I highly, highly recommend The Little Chihuahua Burrito. Their Plantain burrito is to die for. If you go you must ship one to me

  • Say hello to the big bright sun for me. I miss it, I wish it would come visit us and take away the cold.
  • Oh man, my brother lives in San Francisco, and I wish I could go/live there...

Let's see. Eat food. Lots of food, especially from the grocery store, because fresh food doesn't have to travel as far to California as most of it is grown there, so things tend to taste way better, especially citrus this time of year.

Also, climb things. There are lots of places where you can get ridiculously awesome views of the city, including Telegraph Hill downtown and Indian Rick in Berkeley.

The art museums aren't the greatest.

Oh, and there is Napa. I don't know if you'll have enough free time to go there, but I went for the first time the last time I was in California, and it was one of the best days of 2009 for me.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • No, but I'm jealous.  I'm traveling for work next week too...but to Alabama.  Far less fun.

    YES!

(Sorry, extra excitement because I can't usually participate in these threads!).

H and I found THE BEST mexican restaurant/bar ever in San Fran. You must go here:

Try their mojitos and their Guacamole with the fresh tortillas. So very good! Nick and I still rave about this place!

    and as for activities:

Well, we went to Napa but I was underwhelmed. Perhaps because it was so similar to a lot of the winery type places we have here? But there are some amazing french restaurants out that way, so if you go, make sure you book into one of them (there's one which books out months in advance, but also another which isn't quite so hard to get into and makes fantastic food).

The wharf was fun. I wish we'd made time to head over to Alcatraz, but we didn't. Oh, Japan town was fun- and would be particularly so if you haven't been to Japan before- and had good restaurants for lunch. China town was a little hit-and-miss, although we have a china town in my town which is very good, thus I'm probably a little biased. What else? I can't remember what else we got up to now! We were there for July 4th and went out for dinner with friends to an awesome Italian restaurant, but I don't recall the name now.

  • Mmm Roxy that place looks delicious!

Fishy, any particular bloom I should include in my attire? ;)
  • Oh, I also really enjoyed going to Sausalito and eating at a little Mexican place called salsalitos
  • Jeez oh pete, I could spend my entire day eating...that place looks great too, Sun!  I would like to try and see Alcatraz, if I have time.

  • Stop by the Tanners Family, I'm sure they are up to some shenanigans.
