Interesting. 

We live only a few less than a mile from a fault line.  We have not had a big earthquake, but I'm wondering when we will.

I find earthquakes very interesting but very scary. Here in Ontario we have only ever had the very lightest of quakes, so small you cant tell its happening, and I cant even comprehend how scary they might be. The fact that the depth can change the intensity, and you cant predict how deep or how strong they will be is too unnerving to me.

I still remember my 8th grade science teacher tell us that -- stastistically speaking -- we (California) were due for an 8.0 quake within the next 10-20 years.

That was ... a while ... ago.  Frankly, I'm glad I live in Arizona now, although we certainly felt the Baja quake here too.

We also live fairly close to the Puerto Rican trench which is where the North American and Caribbean plates met up.  It's also the deepest part of the Atlantic.  They say it's only a matter of time for there to be an earthquake.
